Anyone else think Fonte wasn't his old self?

Seemed a bit slow the time in the second half when he had to chase somebody but then he hasn't had the pre-season so I let him off.

Bids starting at £5m SELL SELL SELL.

No we should take advantage of European Champion to get £10m. I'm not saying he is worth that though.

We created an offside goal, which is not a goal. Had he been onside we would have created nothing.

Jesus I'm not even that much of a neg-head but surely you can see the desperation when you use a disallowed goal to prove we created 'chances'.

I'm not saying were crap, I'm not saying puel is crap. I'm not saying we need to sack the board and buy a new team. I'm just saying we didn't create chances, it's ok to say that.

FFS... people are saying we didn't create. We ****ing did. Maybe not lots, but create we did.

Seriously - of course it wasn't a goal it was offside - I'm not ****ing thick, but it was a chance created otherwise there wouldn't have been the opportunity.

**** it. I'm off this place for a while. The negativity is ****ing ridiculous at times. Enjoy yourselves.

Fats has gone full Tom :)

Haven't read the comments, but in my opinion, everything changed on the penalty award. No dispute, just careless.
At 1-0, they hadn't caused too many problems, for us, but once the second (soft) goal went in, they relaxed and started to exploit the gaps, without finishing us off. At 70 minutes I wanted it over, because I think a third goal could well have become 4 or 5.
No cutting edge going forward, unfortunately.
Pogba looks like he will be an absolute beast of a player, in this league.

Negatives:
We lost a game of football 2-0.
The system doesn't really seem to suit the players we currently have going forwards. E.g. we've had just 7 shots on target out of 37 total shots in the two games so far (less than 19% on target).
We have only one natural 'finisher' in the squad (Austin), and the diamond does not suit his style of play. Long, is a decent striker for rotation at a club like ourselves aiming to stay in Europe, but should not be your number one guy. Redmond, is NOT a striker, he's an experiment. I know a few Birmingham fans and one Norwich fan, and none of them have praised his finishing. Rodriguez, sadly still has to prove how much of the player from 2013-14 still exists.

Positives:
The game was away to Man Utd and we fully expected it to be a tough game.
In terms of how we played from end to end it was actually very good apart from our last pass and/or shots in the final third. We have had 37 shots in two games, so we're creating some shooting opportunities.
New signings will come. Les/Claude can't have completely missed what we saw. Let's just hope they are good enough at finishing. If we're not signing a 'striker', we certainly need a midfielder or two who know were the net is. Ziyech and Boufal please!!
Hey, ginf that opening statement very contradictory. The system does not suit us but we have had 37 shots. I think the issue is that every player has Steve Davis sponsored shooting boots - not the system. There will be s game soon when er have 3 shots and score 3 goals, will that be the system or will it because our strikers are confident and strike the ball cleanly

So In summary, we played well for periods away from home against a possible title winning side in united. Our mistakes cost us 2 goals, and the 2 good chances we had meant we didnt score any goals. Hoijberg looks like a good buy and VvD looked solid, we just need to get that ball in the back of the net when opportunities present themselves and work on sorting out a formation that is going to suit us best

So we didn't create that then? Come on Ashby. People are saying we didn't create anything. We did. Are you saying that the wind blew that ball in and so it wasn't a created chance?

no. what i said is that we didn't look like scoring a legitimate goal, and to be frank we didn't. Austin looks lost, and when Shane came off that lack of well done mate looked odd

I just don't understand how you can rave about an offside goal? Yay we scored a goal that contravenes the rules of football. It's not a chance, anyone can place a ball behind the defence.

It's really not an issue that some fans are disappointed by the lack of chances in a game. It's ok, you feel we had lots of chances, so you will be happy. I feel there was a real lack of chances, so am disappointed.

We were **** at the start of last season, remember the pasting at home to Everton and the 0-0 draw at Watford, that was some of the worst football I've seen us play in years. Win against Sunderland and I'd say we're already in a better position, the team is capable of going on long winning runs and I'd say we're already playing better football, keeping the ball well. A signing or two and we'll be just fine.

Shrewdest?! I assume you mean tactically LTL. I'd love to see Mourinho manage somewhere without money like Crewe Alexandra, just to see what impact he'd have with lesser players and less finely tuned resources.

Sure, tactically. He knows how to win games, pretty or ugly. That was a massive test for Puel and our players, and I thought they did a pretty good job. We'll be fine.

Long has pace too but it wasn't so apparent tonight. With Redmond moving into a more attacking role, we have no replacement for Mane. Whether we need one depends largely on how Claude wants us to play. Personally I think there is always a demand for aMane type player but before we get too nostalgic, remember Mane went AWOL for a good part of last season. His end of season run in was a bonus rather than a feature of our season.
Yep good reminder, the end of last season is more easily remembered for an old fella like me , but you are correct he was AWOL pre March!

Yet again it's another season when again we are destabilised by manergerial and squad personnel leaving.
Can we keep improving with this philosophy?? We've certainly defied the odds for 3 years now, not sure it's sustainable this season though.
Tonight we looked tidy but never showed any real threat especially once we went behind and Man U settled.
Transfer window not shut yet but do feel we have to strengthen back, middle and front.
European football, injuries, suspensions will all kick in, we definitely need reinforcements.
Claude Puel : big learning curve coming to PL but I don't think he's no mug.

Austin will always look lost if our plan A, B and C all involve playing on the break. He needs balls into the box and we don't seem to want to do that. Wish we would do that though.
