So it looks very like channel 4 put more money into the ad for the Para olympic games than the Rio Organising committee did the actual games....

12% of tickets sold, that's bad, really bad.

Its only in the last few days that Rio seems to have realised that they're hosting the Olympics and the crowds have picked up slightly. General lack of apathy from Rio towards it really. Too much all at once with only having one year between this and the World cup.
Although I do remember Beijing having trouble filling the seats and having to get the army to go plain clothes to make up the numbers.

Yeah...the fact that they were relying on ticket sales so much to fund facilities etc for disabled Olympians is a disgrace. It was obvious to anyone that the stadiums wouldn't fill in a country where the majority of the population are poor, are one sport mad and who don't have previous olympic pedigree to attract home fans ..

Yes, Also watched the Mens final last night and the Bronze medal this afternoon. Just hope all this Hockey on prime time can get people playing, men especially, as our numbers have massively fallen in the last few years. The ladies not so much as there has been pushes to get more girls back to hockey, shame they haven't done it for both sexes.
Just talking on Wednesday, when we were training, about the numbers we'd have this season and it was bleak. Became more a conversation about who wasn't playing than who was.

Yeah...my old hockey club no longer exists...when I started we had 3 teams and an under 15's...not bad for a very small town. Even the clubs around us who were a bit bigger are down to one or two teams from 4 or 5.

Price of moving from grass to gravel to Astro....at least over here. It's ironic that our club that no longer exists owns the land where our grass pitch once stood but due to council rules it wasn't allowed to be sold for any other purpose than sport yet they wouldn't buy it or support us as a private club to even switch to gravel when the was allowed . So we couldn't even sell it to get some money to continue. Even cuts have had their effect. Councils could afford a gravel pitch but not Astro..it's why the game is getting very city centric over here. There's plenty of big grammar schools, universities there with Astro...very few outside the bigger towns.

Also over here you were up against too many "official" school sports..Football, Rugby, GA....Hockey was always seen in our schools outside a few grammars as "a girls sport"..My PE teacher was horrified when I choose Hockey on a Saturday rather than the Rugby school team...called me a **** and barely spoke to me again...of course that might have been because I responded that if he thought it was a soft game he was more than welcome to come down and play with us and I'd make sure I'd take his head off....

    Who's run out of money?

Its the Paralympics that haven't any money, thats because nobody is buying tickets. Seems to be a Brazilian thing not to buy tickets in advance and turn up on the day. Crowds have been getting bigger, so it suggests more people have been buying the tickets as the games have gone on rather than before they started.

Anyway what does the IOC do with the money they make off the Olympics, sponsorship and TV rights etc?
They don't fund any athletes, they don't pay for any of the stadia or infrastructure, they don't pay for any housing of athletes at the games (thats done by the games committee). Where does all that money go?

These Umpires give Pens too easily, we'd never get a pen for that. Should have been a short corner

@Druidius I didn't realise there was a bit of official woman love in the GB hockey team...I'd pay to see that marital bliss...hockey uniforms optional
