Just heard Coldplay - fix you, and nearly cried as I imagined Jose whipping his shirt off and running into the crowd at Brighton
Sorry but all this negativity about Fonte as a person I am struggling to agree with. He has been a fantastic servant to the club and while I understand the emotions about him leaving us, I find the vitriol excessive.
If you can imagine a stereotypical break up scene from a rom-com... That will be me. Ice Cream, chocolates and just weeping in front of sky sports news
If Fonte does want to leave I don't think it's just for a final spin with a big name team. Sure he's 32 but I think he fancies his chances at the next World Cup (don't Portugal have a bit of form with fielding older players?) On that basis I don't completely get the being satisfied with just 10-12m idea. Normally yes, but big clubs have paid big fees for older international players. Fonte's no World Cup superstar but he's more than just a good PL club player now. Obviously we also need to add a dicking us around premium to any price we quote after we gave him a big pay rise not so long ago for apparently no reason. (PS fair play to his loyalty with us for all these years but it's a 2 way thing. We showed loyalty after the playground bust up when we sent out most expensive signing over the hills and far away while rewarding Fone with the captaincy)
You're going to tell me it's ambition and to "win" things then, eh? Please don't believe that. It's the money. It's always the money. That sleaze ball Mendez doesn't give a **** about winning things.
I don't get the "we owe him for his loyalty" part either. We've hardly been holding him in some terrible situation under duress. He gets paid incredibly well, he's been improved exponentially and he's realised his dream of playing for his country. He should feel loyalty to us.
That's the problem, most of them don't feel the loyalty anymore. Think a lot of that is to do with the influx of foreign players?
Nothing to do with nationalities - seems a bit xenophobic to me mate! It's everything to do with money.
I think that foreign players came here mainly for the money at first, which then led to a lot of very average players coming to the premier league. Since then with the to money and even worse, the AGENT, players are never allowed to stay anywhere for to long.
That's awful. Really not sure there's any need for that, he's just a football player who is changing clubs.
I think players move on for a number of reasons - more game time, more money, more glory and silverware. I think we suffer because players know that they can get more money elsewhere and until we match their ambition on the transfer market we will always be a club that sells because they can't see us winning anything
