A familiar mantra trotted out at every opportunity by NCFC!
This season doesn't matter a jot, it's what we achieve 3,4,5 years down the line that's important <yikes>

It does seem to be AN's thoughts Cromer.
Just off the top of my head - we've got Madison, Godfrey, someone from Gillingham and now Onguene!!
Doesn't AN and the board know that we NEED players who can bolster the squad NOW!!!! <doh>

Clearly AN's strategy is to try and produce a team of older senior players and younger developing players. Onguene would be in the later group, in a position where we don't have, with the exception of Godfrey, any younger developing players. What we need is a CB that is better than Martin, Bennent, Bassong / Turner now, however we will still need CB's 3, 4 & 5 years down the line. It's not a case of creating a promotion challenging team or building for future, we need to do both. The last thing we need to do is put all our resources in short term team development and have no long term plan.

Very well said carrow and part of me (and I'm sure I'm not alone!!) would rather we develop these youngsters this season and not strive for promotion, but push for it in the 2017-2018 season, by which time the youngsters should be 'fully fledged' and able to hold their own in the PL in the 2018-2019 season if we get promoted then!!!

Agreed, but look at recent signings McGrandles, Godfrey, Canos, Maddison, Onguene, if it happens.... and I think there's one I've forgotten as they're so far below the radar.
Great in a couple of years, but hell's teeth, we could do with an upgrade on Bassong, Turner, Martin, Whittaker now who are fit and could be ready for our next match.
If not, season ticket holders this season and presumably next have every right to feel a little short-changed. Imho <ok>

I don't think anyone's argued the above more than me over the last 18 months. Indeed when I first start going on about our CB's not being good enough I was in a very small minority (possibly of 1).

I think Onguene would be a good signing, but he wouldn't in my mind solve our current need for another CB this season. However if we do sign him I can't see AN signing another CB especially as at present our need for a proven striker at this level is much more pressing.

Absolutely <ok>
But why waste time, money and our limited scouting resources by concentrating on potential CBs for a year or two's time when we were 'forced' to play Naismith as an out-and-out striker yesterday.
I know we're after one, maybe even two strikers :emoticon-0140-rofl:, as AN said as much this week, so that should be the total priority for the scouting team until the void is plugged. Priorities in the wrong order <ok>
And anyway, if we'd bid £50m for Assombalonga, as I kept preaching we should <doh>, we wouldn't be having this conversation ;)

Brilliant Corner!! <applause>
I'm sure this CB has been on the radar for a while if he was at CR yesterday.

I would like to think by now all the scouting has been done, we should at this stage be pursuing our identified targets.

Financial Fair Play?
The point is, a week after their takeover, they're shopping in Harrod's while we're still effectively blundering round Aldi and car boot sales. But that's how many prefer our stature as a club and they're happy to preserve that status quo.
I'm envious of Wolves - it's not even just the Prem that's not a level playing field any more, it's drip-feeding down to the next tier as well. :emoticon-0106-cryin
