    Trafficker 7.15 market rasen

Drops to class 5 tomorrow and has won off higher marks in the past. Has won over the distance, and only runner in field with course winning form. In a race that lacks much depth, think this is a solid ew play at 13/2. Can't see it out of the top 3.

Morning, team. How are we??? Good, good.

Whisper it very quietly but there’s a rumour in the old county that Alan King’s COSMEAPOLITAN will make a very, and I do mean very, decent juvenile hurdler later in the year but before that he should take some beating in The Derby at Newbury today (the version for the Ladies that is at 5.20). Although he hasn’t obliged in 4 outings so far this term Cosmopolitan’s last couple of efforts have been most sound as he finished a staying on runner up at Royal Windsor and then arguably trumped that effort with a decent 4th in a very hot handicap at ‘Glorious’ Gooders. The step up to 12 furlongs, across the county line, will be a boon for him whilst his barn are in decent form, at the time of writing, with 3 winners on the level since 28 July . Meanwhile, the extremely capable Serena Brotherton, what a lovely name for a filly amateur rider by the way, has been booked. Serena incidentally has a wonderful record in this heat having won 5 of the last 8 renewals! Alan King has also lifted the prize as well, in the past, so knows what is required to win the old heat.

    Good luck all.

Even visitors from Mars would figure out that it is the Ebor meeting next week from the lean pickings today:

Disappointing fields at Newbury: either too small or too large and devoid of useful form.

Whilst I will be cheering for Frankuus, my wallet will be keeping the moths warm in my pocket. Kings Fete ought to win the Geoffrey Freer at cramped odds but this may turn into a tactical affair with no-one obviously going to make the running unless Red Cardinal decides to try and steal it from the front. Home Of The Brave ought to win the Hungerford from the front, provided he and Jallota do not cut each other's throats, but makes little appeal at 6/4.

Over at HQ, I was told Shozita when she won on debut but no word today in a nursery and she is a short-priced favourite. Hard to summon up much enthusiasm for the rest of the card, as three-year-old Case Key could be the right grey in the second but it was a poor race that he won last time.

Intisaab was one of my five-loser Saturday the other week but he represents a trainer with an excellent recent record in the Great St Wilfrid, has course and distance form and is drawn high (where the speed appears to be), so I will have to go and have a look at the race... definitely steer clear of the top seven.

Arguably the bet(s) of the day are 11/10 Leicester to win, 11/5 Leicester HT/FT and 19/10 Leicester to win to nil.

While I’m on I note that one of my faves of recent terms ACTIVIAL has changed barns after being bought out of the Harry Fry stable. He’s now housed with Neil Mulholland. Very favourable switch in my humble opinion.

The purchase price was £80,000 which, given the price some NH horses go for, seems to my eye somewhat cheap. I’ve always really rated Activial and he’s currently one of those beasts ‘on the cusp’ of making a major breakthrough. Would be surprised if, later in the campaign, he didn’t oblige in at Graded level. Is perched on 147 re the big ‘uns and this mark, to my eye, gives considerable ‘room to manoeuvre’.

Just seen my mate who I've not seen since the end of last season and had a good chat. Since I last saw him he has bought a share in VIVA VERGLAS who Wooly put up on 4th August (mate was there) and it seems they're is a plan for this one if it does not win at Newcastle on 26th August. He is off to a stable tomorrow to purchase a share in another horse so hopefully he will pass on relevant info to me when he gets it. He did mention some horse and one was mentioned that could well be a Cheltenham horse in 18 months time. Anyhow today his best best of several was 2.15 Newmarket SHOZITA.

You have me worried now FP. Look at the times of previous winners. Snapshot's most recent win (12 days ago) was over C&D on good ground. The time: 1m 10.42s (enough to win all but 2 past races) and today he carries 16lb less. Baccarat beat that time 3 years ago but has 13lb more to carry. Also Snapshot's only other run over C&D was a second (12 months ago) beaten ½l after being bumped at the start. That was on GS going and the time was 1m 11.60s - enough to have won on GS in any recent year; and that was with 11lb more than he carries today.
It's not one of my 5 in the comp for this race but with those facts to hand he must be great value at 28/1 (888Sport) 25/1 generally
