The Club were a bit worried that the offer had been on the table for a while and he hadn't signed. I'm very relieved about this. He's a big powerful defensive CM with a good engine and a good eye for a pass
Jenkinson was linked with Man Utd at a similar age. Unlike Poyet, the club didn't try and get Jenkinson signed up as a pro as early as possible. When he did get a pro deal it was only for a year.
Wel, if he's as good as his old man, he won't we with us for very long (unless we rise up the leagues very quickly) so it's important to make sure he's under contract.
Totally agree, get him signed up, maybe get a few games out of him before we have to sell him. Its unfortunate but thats what we have to do until we get back to where we want to be!
Look at what the money from Jenkinson has done for us this summer. Actually, let's look at that after Saturday!
Exciting prospect. I guess the contract is just a formality to ensure that if he does move on to bigger things we can dictate the fee as opposed to a tribunal settlement. Good business sense me thinks. Hopefully we will be promoted and he can blossom with us rather than taking the Jenkinson route.
i think we should let players like him, popo, warren, gough, mambo all play the johnstons paint trophy. give them some experience of first team football, albeit in a mickey mouse cup
Whenever we do loan our youth players out though they end up in the conference south or worse. Imo we should try loaning them out to league 2 teams or top conferences teams so they will play against better opposition and when it comes to playing in our first team they will be better prepared for the step up.
That'll be because at the time that is their level, League 2 clubs wouldn't want them. Ben Davisson for example went to a couple of Blue Square South clubs, didn't play very much, so went on loan a level lower to the Ryman Prem and got a run of games. Mambo another, struggled at Eastbourne in the BSP, but did well enough for Staines in the BSS. Look where most of them end up after we release them - Tuna is (or was) on trial with Bromley.
Mambo could probably do a good job in League Two from what I've seen and I'd be happy to see him make a few cameo appearances for the first team to see if he has what it takes. 5 sub rule kind of wrecks any hopes of that though.
