Compare and contrast: US BLM It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within Black communities, which merely call on Black people to love Black, live Black and buy Black, keeping straight cis Black men in the front of the movement while our sisters, queer and trans and disabled folk take up roles in the background or not at all. Black Lives Matter affirms the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, black-undocumented folks, folks with records, women and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. It centers those that have been marginalized within Black liberation movements. It is a tactic to (re)build the Black liberation movement. UK BLM UKBLM aims to highlight the struggle for Black Lives in the UK and #Shutdown state-sanctioned racialised sexism, Islamophobia, classism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia. We fight for liberation. The struggle is global, so must be the solution.

What the UK BLM are saying doesn't stack up, none of this is state-sanctioned. During the 50's and 60's and into the early 70's our West Indian cousins were the largest minority ethnic group. As a result the majority of racism was directed towards them (obviously there has to be a nod towards our Mick cousins during this period too, before they get their knickers in a twist) and when race relations and equality were mentioned in this period it was predominately directed at black West Indian immigrants and subsequent generations of their families. Moving forward through the decades we have seen influxes of immigrants from all over the world. Indians hoofed out of Uganda by Idi Amin, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nigerians, Ghanaians, anywhere from the former colonies and also from within the EU and the dispossessed from war-torn parts of the world. Your average Terry who's grandmother came over on the Windrush has been overtaken in the woe-is-me stakes by a host of other ethnic and religious minorities. Overtaken in the pecking order of who gets the hand-outs first and overtaken in the lists comparing how well minority groups do in education and employment league tables. In essence Terry is no longer the only minority and do they not like that. Not one little bit. Have you seen the dogs abuse they throw at Muslims in all those YouTube videos showing black men and women screaming at people on the bus & trains? Our West Indian cousins have spent decades doing menial jobs, not investing enough in businesses, not investing enough in housing, hardly investing at all in education and the likes of the Indians & Chinese have come on leaps and bounds during the same period. When I did my degree the Law faculty and Business faculty were bursting at the seams with Asian/Oriental students, hardly a black face to be seen and those there were would more than likely to have been African. Let us not forget that they also want reparation for slavery and it isn't just 40 acres and a mule they want back, it would cost £Billions in the UK and $Trillions in the US. Why can't we all just get along?
