I don't get it? he's a good strong honest lad who we sold because he wasn't good enough to oust those ahead of him. He's down blinding at Everton and thats where he should stay! In my opinion at this moment in time he's still not good enough to come back to the bridge especially at the very stupid prices he has been associated with.
Everton only finished three points behind Chelsea last season. If he's good enough for Everton, he's good enough for Chelsea.

Serioulsy we don't need him as long as Costa stays.

Moreover - for that price tag - he will be a ridiculous signing.

Can't believe you're thinking of signing a former player for so much money. Madness.

You can't believe it ..............How the hell do you think we feel. How the hell do you think Man Utd supporters feel. Get over it Stan you will have much more important things to worry about once the season starts.

If Costa is staying, and Remy is staying, with Michy Batshuayi coming in, there is no need to sign Lukaku at all.
If this is happening, its because Costa is leaving, otherwise its a pointless signing, and a waste of £68m or whatever the **** they want for him.
Even if Conte is gonna play 2 upfront, Costa, Remy, Batshit, plus one youth player would be more than enough upfront imo.
Why not have Bamford as the 4th player? Give him some games.

I like Lukaku as a player, but he really is just Drogba-Lite, and certainly not worth £68m.
I know I made this thread initially saying I would have him back, but that was before we signed Batshauyi (sp?).

Agreed. Unless it's to allow Costa to leave, can't see the point at all. Not sold on Lukaku. Good player but not 60 million approx. good. But then again, the money being thrown around at the moment is mental.

The only person really pushing this story is Darren Lewis.

I've been told it's bollocks, sounds like he's running with a figment of his imagination, but we'll see what transpires.

Probably is bullshit.
Just cannot see why Chelsea would want him back, at that price as well!
Unless Costa is leaving, this would be a silly signing.
Even if Remy leaves, Lukaku then has to contest his place against Costa, which he didn't want to do, and is the reason he left in the first place!

The only way this story makes any sense is if Costa is heading back to Madrid, but they've signed Gameiro so that seems unlikely.

I forgot about Bertrand Traore as well.
He had a decent run of games and scored some goals last season.
Why not let him step up?
Really dont want us to spend nearly £70m on another striker, when I feel we are more than adequately covered in that area.

Would rather we throw that kind of money at Bonucci or someone similar for our Defense.

Exactly.
Costa, Remy, Batshit and Traore are adequate cover for upfront, even if we go with 2 strikers, imo.
Bonucci or Koulibaly would be very much preferred by me if we are going to spend that kind of cash.

I don't think any player is worth their value unless it can be recouped with commercial sales. For me there are two intrinsic values a player has. Their marketability, their actual ability to play. They are linked and variable therefore all buys are a risk. There is a baseline to judge against, it is called the past. What is certain is success brings profit. It can be individual performances or from contributing to the team.

We know there is more to a player than just playing talent. I would suggest reliability, professionalism, leadership, can all outweigh playing ability sometimes. You may want someone who is creative if not hard working or vice versa. You may want someone who doesn't make waves, even a whole team like that and by you I mean the manager, board/owner. If you want to sell products then a handsome face and amiable character linked to a sufficient amount of playing talent will be considered.

I can't see who is going to want Costa now Atletico spent 30M on Gameiro. There is no way we're getting him if Costa stays, imagine having a 30M striker on the bench EVERY week and that's if we play two up front. It's not happening.

Let's save some money and get a couple of defenders instead.
