Is he? He wasn't at Blackburn. Or Villa really.
I wouldn't say 5 in 24 at Villa was particularly strong. Playing him means you need to go route one and he makes Olmondroyd and Bamber look like greyhounds.

I just don't rate him and out of about a couple of thousand strikers to pick from why choose him?

It's roughly what N'Doye managed for us. Don't forget how **** Villa were.

I thought Abel had a slight hernia strain, I haven't seen him in Waitrose shopping for quite a while now.

Gestede is/was and will always be garbage.
If we continue to pump aimless crosses into the box as we did throughout the Bruce reign then Gestede is probably the best striker we could reasonably get. Obviously with a new manager the style of play may change but I said throughout Bruce's time here that Gestede would have suited our style of play perfectly and probably would have scored a ridiculous amount of headers for us.

Haven't gone back through recent posts but the HDM and BBC reports that we have Coleman, Bradley, and Zola on our short list to replace Bruce seems a step in the right direction. Coleman is young and did a brilliant job with Wales and would probably bring in RK (although I'm not convinced he's the man to play off Abel. Bradley obviously has strong connections to the MLS and knows many of the good young players over there who could help us, plus the Egyptian league. And Zola is a players manager who could bring attacking ideas lacking under Bruce. Reportedly a decision will be made by Tuesday and we could then begin to see a pick up in transfer activity.
