There's still issues with the batting, but we are right in the hunt still. Yes we have to win two out of two - and yes, even if we do that we could still finish 5th and miss out on NRR vs Kent and the winner of Surrey-Middlesex next week - but we are still in it.

Top bowling.
 
Saturday: Somerset v Sussex (come on Sussex)

Sunday: Glamorgan v Hants, Kent v Gloucs (come on Gloucs), Middlesex v Essex (difficult to know who we want without knowing the final round results first, which is clearly impossible)

Monday: Surrey v Glamorgan (probably come on Glamorgan, but if we were to fail to Somerset and needed all the help to slip through the back door, then Surrey having won this one would be of great help suddenly)

Tuesday: Gloucs v Essex (come of Gloucs), Hants v Somerset, Sussex v Kent (come on Sussex), Middlesex v Surrey (right now we don't really care, but the results on Sunday and Monday might change that - if you have to choose one at this time, you go Middlesex because of Surrey's vastly superior NRR. In theory Middlesex could win twice, but still drop below us)

It's funny, but how much bowling would Wheal have had this season without all the injuries?...we seemed to have found a superb young one day death bowler almost by accident..every cloud and all that...

Yep. Like I alluded to, I'd still drop him without any hesitation from our four day team (and the signing of Andy Carter today suggests that at least one seamer will be making way in our next four day game). But in limited overs cricket we have struck gold. And that is fine by me. Not every cricketer will excel in all three formats. If Wheal turns out to be a long term option in one-day and t20 cricket, and Alsop in one-day and four-day cricket, then absolutely great. And maybe this season will have been worth it.

Big game on Friday night for McManus and Weatherly. Irrelevant what the result is (it's a t20 shoot-out to avoid the south group wooden spoon, nothing else), so a possible shoot-out between the two of them to play in our last two one-day games. No doubt the coaches are still pencilling McManus in for now, but if he fails on Friday whilst Joe scores well, then bringing Joe in and giving Wheater the gloves back would have to be considered. Ervine getting a score would be quite nice too.
 
Iffy start for Somerset, which is great news for us. A defeat for them not only increases our chances of qualifying, but also our chances of getting a home QF (and with it, in theory, a weaker QF opponent).
 
Having missed out on Stoneman to Surrey, we've now missed out on Stone to Warks.

The bowling depth of both those sides is quite frightening to compared to us (not that Stoneman is a bowler of course. I'm just making the point).
 
Somerset qualify. One space gone, three left. A win for Essex tomorrow will see them take a second qualifying spot.
