Picked above quotes at random from the many on this subject. Pundits were talking about a Winter Break on TMNC on Radio 5 last night. The Germans get nearly 5 weeks apparently. Thing is, there are overseas TV PL contracts where the only football over the Xmas/New Year period is the PL, and there's a lot of incoming lucre for it, so that's out. Personally, I see no reason why a split break couldn't be had before and after the Xmas/New Year period, if necessary. The pundits thought one could be arranged through earlier round Cup games no longer having replays or second legs, or extra time, but straight to penalties after 90 minutes. Favourite period would seem to be January or February, when attendances are lower. Must admit, that would be logical, but I would miss those dark afternoon matches where the only highlight of a grim month would be football matches. It's a small concession though, I guess.
http://www.express.co.uk/pictures/s...ergkamp-Tony-Adams-and-Herbert-Chapman-145917 Found this interesting....football statues outside stadiums. Yes, I am that sad. I particularly liked Thierry Henry at Arsenal, Bob Stokoe at Sunderland, Tom Finney at PNE and of course Ted Bates at SMS.
No surprise to see Chelsea in Number 1 position. It is probably due to the behaviour some of their fans exhibit at away matches in the UK and in Europe.
Apparently a chance that the Olympic stadium is likely to be renamed the Tesco stadium. I hate these sponsored stadium names, though some work better than others....Emirates...ok, Tesco...naaah! Please don't let Saints go down this route.
Don't make it Lidls....couldn't bear the jokes about selling all our players. The only name worthy of Saints (in my eyes) is the Mercedes Stadium.
Well we have been sponsored by the local Jaguar dealer before inside the ground, so I think The Jaguar Stadium would beat that. A British brand (if not British owned anymore). We purr when we play...
If our current sponsors want to do it, we could be the Virgin Arena....? Might attract a new set of fans?
Still not the worst name for a stadium in the world, step forward Louisville: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KFC_Yum!_Center
As FLT has said, if we want the extra income we may go down that route. However, you may remember a place called The Friends Provident Stadium, so we've been down that route somewhat and come away.
Unfortunately, it's very lucrative to the PL/FA/FL as it's all televised overseas. So don't hold your breath waiting for that format to be changed.
You don't need to be rich. Contact the club, start the campaign and a fundraising site. It'll be raised quickly.
