Liverpool made a big money bid for Joao Mario, according to the player’s father.
But he says Sporting rejected the offer out of hand.
“Proposals for the lad don’t come directly to me,” Mario’s father reportedly told Diario de Noticias.
They go to his agent, Kia Joorabchian, and the Sporting President. I was informed, however, that the club said no to €35m plus €10m in bonuses from Inter and to €40m from Liverpool.
“Nothing particular has happened, my son is a professional and knows he has a contract with Sporting.
“At the same time, we’re talking about a very valuable player for the club, who would aspire to bigger projects in the course of his career.”

Joao Mario and Talisca links make no sense to me. Mayer too. they might have been scouted or bidded prior to othe rmoves but why would we be trying for yet another attacking CM.

Must be painful for Napoli fans. They have risen up in the fall of AC and Inter Milan and other old Italian powers, now to just see their best player leave for Juventus. Still odd to see an Italian club spending big money, are we sure its not a £1m fee with £74m in add ons?
If we buy another player this Summer, it will be a LB, can't see us buying anyone else..
Think, even if/when we sell Benteke, we won't replace him, lack of European footy means we'll get back with the likes of Sturridge, Origi, Ings, we also have the likes of Mane and Firmino that could play up top too!
