Sam's first match in charge is a friendly at Wembley on 1 September. Opponents not yet named. He has the grand total of 3 days to prepare his squad. If the performance is less than impressive he will be ridiculed in the press and by fans on social media. Thankless task, good luck to him.
Don't worry, they'll probably put him up against a soft target for his first game in charge. Iceland, perhaps.
France showed just how poor Iceland were. English froze when they went behind Sam's biggest challenge will be to make them play to an agreed plan and to not freeze against lesser opponents. We could all pick a decent England side.
As long as he picks the shape, decides his plans A, B and C which are all simple enough for the players to understand, and then chooses players to fit these in their natural positions he should deliver an improvement. And underlines that no one 'plays their way into form' in an England shirt.
Will depend who's fit for starters, all I know is that fat twat Rooney will be in it. If he is I won't be watching, because there can be no progression with him in it !
I'll be watching and supporting whoever is in the team, but I would like to see Rooney retired from international football now. He has been fantastic but it's time for a new start.
England always coast the qualifiers and beat good opposition in friendlies - he needs to install some confidence once we get to the knockouts. I think he'll be able to do that and will surprise some people.
We have coasted qualifiers recently. Doesn't mean we will continue to. I expect a qualification scrap with Alladyce
I see Paul Clement has turned down a coaching role in Big Sam's set-up, opting to concentrate on his job with Ancelotti at Bayern. He's obviously no mug...
