I'd happily write him off. Talented but if we haven't seen anything from him so far, loss cutting seems a good idea.

    Bah!

I still think he could be an important player for us this year. Difficult for him last year as our emphasis was mostly defensive and he is a creative attacking player. He's missed the pre-season so far because of a family bereavement but he is back with the squad now. AN's decision will be the one that counts though.

Agree - likely to be a fringe player at best - get what we can for him and use the monies to strengthen the areas that definitely need looking at.

Creative player for sure but I think we should cash in.

AN has confirmed that it would only be a loan deal, so other than saving some wages, nothing to cash in OCF.

If he's reflecting, learning and being harsh on himself, that's good. Unfortunately that's the kind of thing that you would want to hit McNally hard or his replacement. Unfortunately noones in that position. I don't know who's handling that area now! Is it Delia?

Alex Prichard has been left behind from the pre-season tour! PLEASE put a bid in AN!

Alex and Brady on set-pieces would really scare sides!

WBA have made a bid for Dunk. Could be 2 good possible CB targets off the table.

I really like Danny Bath at Wolves. Don't know if their take over would make that more or less likely we could get him. If they started buying a new team, players could be up for grabs.

This is basically the same as post #1567 but re-worded slightly.
The bit that warmed my little cockles :emoticon-0112-wonde <yikes> was this:

"We have added a number of young players now who over the next few years will be good for this football club," Neil added. "But what we need to do now is bring in guys who can influence this season and not in a year or two`s time." <applause>

One or two of us have been chanting this mantra for bloody ages. Your Godfreys and McGrandles are great prospects and will no doubt be assets given time but what about objectives for the coming season.
Far too long has been spent garnering youth talent for 2,3,4 years down the line and not enough attention paid to the here and now, imho <ok>

Other than Redmond I can't think of any success stories from buying young prospects and improving them enough to become first team regulars.

If it wasn't for injuries, maybe Ryan Bennett at a stretch?

I think it's only in the last year or 2 that we've been buying young talent with a view to them coming good 2, 3 & 4 years down the line. Most of our young talent has come through the academy and they haven't really developed to the required standard. I think when we appointed Adams as first team manager we harmed our chances of developing our younger players more than was expected.

If he has a release value estimated at £20m, why the hell would anyone offer £32?

To buy and/or develop young players you need to plan ahead so they can go out on loan and get experience before they can compete for the first-team squad. City have done just that with several young players and now have the Murphys, Toffolo, Maddison and Thompson competing for first team places. That is invaluable for a club like ours, but it also true that we need players for the present as well. Interestingly, the bookies have us at 2/7 to sign McCormack and Villa the next closest at 6/1, so they think he's coming to CR.

Last season, we thought we had the strikers needed for the PL in Mbokani, Jerome, Grabban and Hooper and most people on here agreed with that. That turned out to be wrong in hindsight, but it didn't seem so at the time. McCormack would be a good signing for this year, but will that still be the case if we get promoted? It's a delicate balance really.
