Possible stream for today's 6pm match against Dukla Prague on feed2all. I've posted a separate stream about it for those interested.

EDIT: woodbine has posted a link to a YouTube stream for the match which should be better quality. The Official Site lists the match as 6pm, but the time may show as 1700 (5pm) GMT.

Ricky leading the line today and Thompson at RB - interesting !

An excerpt from an article by Stewart Lewis on MFW on the topic of striker -
"McCormack, Assombalonga or AN Other? If I had any inside knowledge I’d be happy to share it. As it is, those two may or may not be our prime targets, and may or may not be within our means. But let’s play along.
McCormack is the closest thing to a guaranteed Championship goalscorer, but 30. He’d be a short-term investment – not my usual inclination, but if it’s ever the right thing to do, it’s now.
At 23, Assombalonga is the perfect age to buy but clearly more of a gamble. He looks the part, but has only scored 16 Championship goals. On the other hand, the shirt-printing income isn’t to be sneezed at…

Take your pick – and don’t be surprised if the striker we actually sign is someone completely different."

I'm hoping it's not McCormack. as we'd probably only get one season out of him and £15M is just too much I feel.

According to today's EDP, AN is hoping to see some new faces at CR, before the season kicks off. <ok>

This is the bit I liked:

“We are working on things but in terms of imminent I don’t think it will happen in the next 24 or 48 hours,” AN said. “But I am hopeful by the time we are back from the tour we shouldn’t be too far away from something else.”

Could it be McCormack? That's who all the papers are talking about...

I think Joe Allen to Stoke is a pretty smart move for Stoke. I think that would be a really good fit.

Stoke have done really well out of watching where Liverpool have overpaid for players not quite at the right level and then bought them on the (relatively - compared to if they had bought direct from Swansea) cheap

If Alex Neil spends a combined £24m on 2 Scottish International forwards with a combined age of almost 60 then he is more confident in Scottish Football than me.

The bookies certainly seem to think that McCormack is coming to us with odds of 4/9 compared to 20/1 for West Brom. Given that a quality striker is our only 'must buy', I could see this happening. Unfortunately, it probably also means that Brady is on his way out to pay for it. C'est la vie.

Fulham paid circa £11m for him, so they won't accept less than that, obviously.
But why now, why not this time last year?

My guess is that the price would be £12-13m, some of which is add-ons, financed by the sale of Brady for that or more. I don't think that this is a case of a 'young, hungry player' option. We need a proven goalscorer who can hit the ground running. Holt may have been hungry, but he wasn't young and I think a McCormack/Naismith combo could produce the goals we need alongside the goals Jerome can provide.

As for why not last year, IMO Bournemouth would have matched or exceeded any offer we made for Afobe.

Alen Halilovic from Barca to Hamburger SV. 4.1M. Surprised they sold him,and surprised at the price! They have a Buy Back of 8.3M in the next 2 years. Strange that real and Barca very often do that. I wonder if it's better to do that, than a season long loan with the club loaning paying all wages, then can always agree the same loan the following season. Rather than putting in this Buy Back clause. They often do go back and buy them again.

It's like saying: "You have a lot of potential, I don't 100% believe in you and that you'll achieve it. Incase you do, we will have a Buy back clause". Surely if they really believed in the players potential, it would just be straight forward loans?

Wijnaldum to Liverpool I find a bit strange. I know he ripped us apart with 4 goals in 1 game, but that's not hard. I don't think I've seen or heard enough from Newcastle fans to justify a big team going in for him, let alone £25M. I also think the amount of attacking midfielders they have got, I don't know where he will fit in. I think there is a good player in there, but I don't think he earned that kind of fee at Newcastle. If it was a team like WB or Everton and a fee of about £10M I could see that more. Just shows the financial clout Premiership teams have this season. Throwing £25m pounds around on a risky player.

Newcastle paid £15 to bring Wijndaldum in from PSV so no question of him going for less than that. Good player who creates and scores goals but they already have Coutinho, Firmino and spent an outrageous amount to bring in Mané.

Legia Warsaw supposedly interest in Vadis Odidja-Ofoe.

I think it would be a shame to let him go, we haven't seen anything he can do yet due to his unfortunate injuries. If we could keep him clear of injuries id love to see him here next season.
