Yes it did mention that bit. I still believe the bit about German FA forcing changes and getting better coaching of kids and education of the coaches and parents, would benefit us in the long run. It would also benefit the clubs themselves.

I just think we have too much Viking blood in our veins and want to conquer and win now.

One thing I'm convinced off is that with no real change, we'll go on flattering to deceive for years and years.

Does this mean that Kevin Nolan will be Asst Manager and that only players that are at (or will switch to) a certain agency will be selected?

I think it's because you made his nose smaller / less "roman."

Spot on. A manager that pulls the selfish egos aside and says "This is a team and you play for the team not your own personal glory. Anymore shooting on sight and you're out for someone who will create chances and make the right choices."

I think this is the usual media way behind and not that knowledgable. This is the same media that has 70s, 80s, 90s football stars giving us the inside info on a game that has changed beyond recognition (in terms of behind the scenes.)

Venables was at the front of modern coaching with pro-zone remember. Wasn't Sam another on that? And Wenger with his stats for everything approach. I don't think Sam's "modern coaching" is today's modern coaching. Just that at one time he was ahead of the curve and sports these days that curve catches up and goes past you very very quickly.

Either way I think his more "honest" man management will shake up the selfish ones and they will quickly learn to play for each other or be left out of the squad altogether.

Not sure it was all down to him being shagged out. HE tends to pass to teammates for Tottingham instead of shooting as soon as he gets it and I haven't seen him taking Free kicks and corners and goal kicks for Tottingham either.

And her changed the outlook in England. Almost single handedly.

Fat Sam really got into pro zone and stats, coupled with sports science and that is why he was a success at Bolton and fair play to him on that. He also was very clever selecting ageing stars using sports science info to help his team's. He was one of the first and so was able to make a difference. I'm not sure he offers anything cutting edge now.

I don't think we actually know if others don't offer more cutting edge. After all we know what happens behind the scenes at Saints but not really what happens at other clubs. I do agree though 10 years ago (Bolton) he had them playing very efficiently with his mixture of a World XI in their last year or 2. Hierro, Campo, Djorkaeff, Okocha, Bobic, . It wasn't as if he had a team of unknowns and got them to the top. HE had a team of world stars there. Ageing yes but all the same very very good players experienced at the very top level.

I was not sure if you'd read the article previously or not....

I think you did miss what I meant, you were talking about the German model and what they did. I provided you with a link explaining it a bit and why it won't work over here.

Admittedly I hadn't read the whole thread so wasn't sure on the context of what you were saying, but I thought it was a harmless link to share. It seems like it was a waste of time as you clearly know everything already.

Ah ok thanks, that makes sense now :emoticon-0148-yes:

That model would be hard to implement here, yet the FA could still make big changes and improve things.'

Shame about your last comment LP. No need. I asked you a genuine question. You've explained and it sits well. I wasn't having a go or anything so don't know why you said that last line. Unnecessarily rude and I don't know why. Had I offended you by asking a question?

Thanks for posting the link it was a very good article and I hadn't seen it before.

No I think he is exactly what we need. I don't think he is going to turn us into World Champions but he is the right man to break the culture of players playing for their own glory which is what is really holding us back. A strong manager not afraid to drop selfish 'irks if they don't change their ways and play for the team. Sick of seeing players like Lallana (I know) getting slated for having a poor game when everyone else in the front 6 is just shooting on sight, never passing and trying to dribble through a wall just to get that glory moment.

Lallana or Barkely or Sterling? The former keeps hold of the ball better, creates more and plays for the team. The latter 2 pick up the ball and immediately they think of personal glory.

Rooney is slated when in reality he is in a similar position to Beckham was in the latter years of having to cover the whole midfield because everyone else is out of ideas other than better pass back so I don't lose it.

Henderson? Dier is young and already miles better than him.

Sturridge, Wellbeck and Kane? If they are within 30 yards they aren't passing to anybody. Townsend the same. Of course you notice it more when there is a player in the attack you really like. Drove me mad when Rickie got his chance to see Sturridge and Wellbeck not passing and shooting from range all the time.

Sam is perfect to break up that culture of "me first, team second."

What is also needed is complete reform of training/coaching for kids, but that is not the responsibility of the manager to enforce, although he can impress on the idiots at the FA its importance. Quite right about man managing the players though.

I fairly sure there is no me first attitude in the England squads. I think they play petrified. They play OK-ish when they have average opposition against them, hence they win occasionally, but when they have a team of real quality and/or organisation in front of them they fall apart. That's not borne of the selfish individual attitude. It's borne of a team that plays with almost zero confidence when properly challenged.

The funny thing, I'd like them to have a little me first in them. It might breed a little confidence. Not one of them is confident enough to take hold of a game. Not one of them is a leader. Look at what happens when an England player scores a goal, either in a tournament or against good opposition in qualification. The team celebrate like they've won a championship. It's because, despite their misgivings, against all personal doubts, they've managed to achieve something. If a team, that is used to achieving, scores a goal, they celebrate, yeah, but it's not frantic. They realise there's a mission to be completed.

So like I've said [I feel like a zillion times] before, on this and references in the past, don't mistake fright in competition for an uncaring attitude. I have no doubt that, in the main, England players care enough. They are also good enough to reach semi-finals, perhaps even finals, if properly managed. But they play petrified and can achieve nothing in that condition.

So Lallana will be a bench player at best I guess.

Quite interesting England manager quiz question:

Sam Allardyce will be the fifth man to take charge of England whose surname ends in a vowel, name the other four.

I can think of one so far.

Not quite sure why you replied to me and started with "no"... I actually said "Let's hope I am wrong"

    I hope I am wrong.
