Following Essien's injury it looked like we might go after Parker. That has all gone quiet whilst in the meantime a very similar and just as good English midfielder is now available for free.

Why don't we take a punt?

English, prem experience, sensible wages, best form of his career....

He wouldn't make starting 11 but solid squad member.

Barton is a class player on the pitch...

Good in the tackle, his vision, distribution and service is quality and he is an excellent at set pieces, an area we are pretty ****e in to be honest...

I would see him at the club, and on a free transfer it would be a **** hot piece of business

Think he would do a good job for you, but would be wanting to play a lot, not sure he'd be awfully keen on a squad role, then again you have the CL to tempt him with. Top player, and despite what the media will have you think, he's a top bloke in the dressing room. Dont you need a defensive midfielder though?
