Hideous to think that what Brown, Stringer and Mike Walker achieved at the club was so easily eradicated by Deehan, Megson and Roeder. (And Neil Doncaster, to be fair, he didn't exactly help)

But, hell's teeth, it's onwards and upwards for us now. Exciting, once again, after a lean year or ten.

nice comments cromer. i get a feeling he will get a move but i think the clubs stance is strange on this one and they will have to back down a considerable amount to do a deal.

Considering we paid £25k for him, anything near to £300k will be a fantastic return! I'm afraid I really cannot see why we are asking for £600k for someone who has had one, albeit very good, season in League 2, plus a handful of Lg1 and Championship appearances. That would, by my reckoning, make him worth more than Holt was when we bought him.

For Cody's sake I really hope either someone offers the amount we are asking, or the club reduce their valuation of him. He will be out of contract at the end of the season, so his value is reducing all the time, and we can't even keep him along for the ride, as he would have to be named in the 25 man squad, rather than being underage.

Lets not forget, we gave good money for Holt when we bought him, considering he was from league 2. I do agree with the majority on here, think of the player too. I expect he will be gone in a couple of weeks and I wish him all the best!!!!

The club aren't interested in the player, it's a business - there concern is the club not the player.

It is the financial implications that worry me. Obviously the Club know more than I do but it seems that 2 of the few financially able Clubs in the lower divisions have come in for him and been scared off by the asking price which, on face value, appears extremely high for a 25 year old who has not shown ability above Div 2 level and who has only a year left on his contract. What happens if no other Club comes in? Who could then blame the lad for sitting on his contract, considering a loan spell if offered and then leave on a free to join whoever wants him - possibly Gillingham as they are near his home territory. This leaves us with no transfer fee and full or part payment of his wages for the next 12 months. I just hope there is more to this than meets the eye as I would have thought that as he is not wanted any reasonable offer should be accepted to get him off the books. On the same subject it concerned me when PL implied in his press conference that a couple of other not wanted players had turned down offers to move. Unlike OTJ I suspect that a few of them will take the obvious financial incentive to just sit on their Premiership enhanced contracts and then leave on frees at the end. I know there is still a month left but there is little sign of any of them moving on with the obvious financial consequences for our Club.

Forgive my ignorance, but at what point does/might the old chestnut "contract terminated by mutual consent" come into play?
Not Cody, especially, I'm thinking more of Hughes, S. Smith and Oli J,
who as far as I know have attracted no interest from other clubs despite being told they have no future at the yellow fortress?

It has to be agreed by and to the advantage of both parties. The Club cannot just terminate a contract. An example of how it works - any similarity to an actual case is purely coincidental !!! Club N have a player on £120K a year that they no longer want and has been available on a free transfer for some time despite having a year to run on his contract. Club N are not interested in a loan arrangement as he could always be sent back. Club I are interested but can only offer the player £60K a year plus free accomodation for the 1 year contract they are offering. The contract with Club N is cancelled by mutual consent with the terms being that Club N pay the player a lump sum of 7 months wages ( £84K ) and also pay the player £1500 per month rent for the luxury appartment the player leaves behind which the Club can give to another player they have signed on a 12 month loan. Club N saves 4 months wages and 12 months pension contributions/NI/expenses etc and gets the player off the books losing the risk of him just sitting on his contract. Club I get the player for the terms they could afford. The player gets £144K in wages, free accomodation, rental income on his appartment and a game every week. Everybody is happy.

Forgive me 1950canary :s, I thought it was far more simple than that. both parties, the club and player, agree to end the contract and the player becomes a free agent.

I think the circumstance you describe is where a player is unwilling to leave due to a potential drop in wages. The club want to offload him and so agree to pay the remaining percentage of his wages that the new club won't/can't pay and so the player receives the wage he would have done had he not moved clubs.

This is because in the law of contract, if there is a breach from one paarty, which there would be if the club refuses to add up the remainder of the player's wages, compensation wise it is considered that the contract must be completed. This happens unless both parties agree to terminate a contract.

Sorry that I went off a bit of a tangent there, and I may not be 100% correct but that's the general idea in the situation mentioned above.

Back to football. I don't think Cody would refuse to leave, he's a player that seems ambitious and had previously been playing non-league football. He would want to play regularly.

Sorry for any confusion Wonky but my explanation was a response to the query from Cromer about specific players who are not wanted at Carrow Road but won't be offered such high wages by any other interested Club.
