I organized the sweepstake for the Rugby World Cup at work. An independent verifier (my mate) did the teams out of the hat, I was first up and legitimately drew New Zealand. My verifier mate went 2nd and legitimately got Australia (both finalists in the end).
Word got about and people didn't want to commit to the £5 joining fee knowing the 2 best teams were taken. So ended up with less prize money. Still won £35, people even expected to get a round in. I told them to **** off.
The whole scenario made me feel like @InBiscanWeTrust, except I wasn't actually corrupt.
You ****ed up because you're meant to get all money first then draw once you've got everyone signed up. Not draw teams as you go, or if you're left with Japan as the only team you're not gonna get anyone to buy it.
