I'm not sure if that's just **** or if the sponsor's logo just screws it up.
At least it's properly stripey again. The pinstripe thing just doesn't look right on them.
 
An official in South Africa has suggested that Oscar Pistorius will be eligible for their 2020 Paralympic team, after his release from jail.
He didn't say which event they wanted him to compete in though, so anyone on their shooting squad might want to watch their backs.
 
I've always wondered why there's a Biathlon of shooting and skiing in the Winter Olympics and no equivalent in the summer games. It would be perfect for Mr Pistorius. Shooting and running away? Just his strengths. If you could add in hiding behind the world's worst excuses, he'd win gold, silver and bronze.

Access to firearms is only a part of the problem.
Other countries have fairly lax gun laws and lack these issues.
Canada is one of them and they share a border.

Wealth inequality and the media constantly hate-mongering and pitting people against each other are bigger issues, in my opinion.
People might not find it as easy to do things like this if their access to weapons was restricted.
The fact that they'd still want to would still be a massive problem, though.

Interesting to see that they apparently offed one shooter with a bomb.
I've read mixed reports about how they did it, though. It's still a new approach, to me.

I'd say a large part of the problem is the average American police officer can best be described as a sociopath on a power trip, best demonstrated by how three police officers will literally sit on an unarmed suspect while a fourth aims a loaded gun at their head the entire time.
 
The main problem, which is perennial, is the NRA. The have a huge lobby in congress and buy influence there.

Ok, it's fanciful, and horse and stable door to believe that you can take guns away from the American public - there are more guns than people over there. But, if not for the NRA, some form of control or ban on the sale of automatic weapons could be instated. But, of course, the NRA insist that this is the 'thin end of the wedge'. So, the madness continues.

Why would anybody want an Uzi, or an AK47, or a Mach 10?? They're not sporting guns, their only purpose is to kill other people.

As for ' guns don't kill people, people kill people' Bollocks! People with guns kill people is far more accurate!..

It's a cultural thing. You have a grievance, you shoot someone dead. And it happens so frequently that people come to accept it as the norm. It affects those closely concerned, but everyone else is sanitised to it. If it was made harder to obtain guns, some lives might be saved and over time, shootings might be viewed as less and less a fact of life and more unacceptable and intolerable. So called "ordinary" people might be less inclined to arm themselves.
 
Who is making those guns anyway and are they upset these are being misused.Nooooo! They are just out to make money.
They used to have guns to counter the Indians,but they pretty much wiped them out and now they are shooting their families,friends,neighbours........

There are virtually no fully automatic weapons in the hands of private individuals in the US.
There was a ban on registering them after 1986, so no new ones are available and the old ones cost a fortune.
I don't think that anyone's ever used one in a mass shooting incident, either.

The latest shooter used an SKS semi-auto rifle and a pistol, apparently.
Bit of a strange choice. Given his military training, I'm surprised that he didn't go with something he'd have trained with.

Yes. The law seems to have changed and anything manufactured after 1986 seems to be pretty much illegal now. But, I'm sure that's a minor hindrance to those who want one.

You can still pretty much freely buy anything up to .50 calibre, however. Including this little beauty - a sniper's weapon.

If not, and it hits someone, it will tend to hit them in proportion to their average proximity to the gun. So the gun owner is likeliest to get shot, then his family, then the neighbors.

The strangest thing about it all is that Canadians own even more guns than Americans per capita, and yet somehow almost always keep them from killing people. Go directly south of Detroit, the traditional murder capital of the world, and you’ll be in Windsor, a medium-sized Canadian city. In 2011, Detroit out-murdered Windsor 358 to 1. Is it something in the water that makes us so nutty?
 
My sister and her 2nd husband owned a cab firm and a Cadilac dealership in LA. She had to bank the takings every day. Being english she didn't like guns but always carried one. She trained properly and knew how to use it. Fortunately she never had to. She let all of her employees know that she was armed and wasn't frghtened to use it. I guess it acted as a deterent. Obviously it would be better if nobody has a gun, but in the current situation in the States, some people, in particular people carrying large quanties of cash, need them for their own security.

Ive been to Windsor several times. I used to go over there to get silly English things, like marmite, teabags, that I couldn't buy in the US. Once you go over that bridge or through the tunnel, it's a completely different vibe.

But it’s only a good idea if that gun is likelier to kill your assailant than a member of your family. I’ll accept that’s the case for your sister. But for most Americans, it’s not.

In 2010, there were 230 justifiable homicides committed with firearms, compared to 8,275 murders, 19,275 suicides by firearm, 230,000 firearm thefts (so 1,000 bad guys newly armed : 1 bad guy dead) and 606 accidental deaths and 73,505 bullet injuries. The one that stood out to me was a young woman who tweeted about how much her five year old loved learning how to use his gun at the firing range shortly before he shot her in the back while she was driving there. My god, we’ve had a sitting vice president fill one of his shooting and drinking buddies with birdshot--while Clinton was getting the third degree for launching a completely harmless projectile. It’s not like he shot somebody.

I had exactly the same feeling. Two places next to each other that seemed like different universes.
