He's a slimy git too but he stood up and did the right thing for his principles and should be more than a foot note.

Blair(as shown in the report)led the country into a war based on lies about Iraq's non existent WMD's, even if its proved in a court of law that he never personally lied he certainly used the lies of others to keep his(8 months earlier)promise to George W Bush that Britain would be at the US's side no matter what when the invasion began.
Blair(and Bush)are by definition "war criminals" according to the families of the soldiers killed in the war and the aftermath, also many thousands of innocent Iraqis were blown to pieces because of Blair's decision and he should be answerable for those deaths.

Saddam was an evil bastard(like Gadaffi and others in the middle east)but they were part of the glue that held the regional powderkeg together, and perversely the region(and the world since the spawn of Isis)is a worse place without their regime's still in place.

TBF the rise of ISIS / ISIL/ IS / Deash or whatever we are calling them this week was hugely helped by the Americans decision to disband the Iraqi army against British advice as the core of their military leadership comes from ex high ranking Baathist (sp) officers.

But if the invasion hadn't happened there wouldn't have been a situation were the yanks disbanded the Iraqi army and no spawning of ISIS.

does anyone really give a bollox about this.. like.. we all know theres one rule for the minor dictator and another for the leaders of the west. its just people seeing the truth of the double standard.

well obviously
my point , if not well made , was that the septics ridiculous decisions , quite a lot of which seemed to be designed to line American pockets , had a lot to do with the rise of IS.

There is always the problem when a state gets dislodged what will replace it and in the instability often the scum rises to the top. It is just like the Tory party.

I'd assume with confidence that the families of those that died "give a bollox", maybe if Blair gets put before a judge/judges to answer for his actions it might be the straw that breaks the camels back when it comes to western leaders getting away with murder.

I think you're being a tad naive. **** all will change. MITO is right. There is no ****ing chance ANY western leader will ever be prosecuted for war crimes. Ever.

I said this on another thread. If Blair was around today he could nuke the **** out of any country from the Turkish border all the way east to Japan.... everyone would all bang their drums shouting "oh how terrible", we'd have million man marches in every capital city in europe.... and 6 months later it would all blow over. Except for a public enquiry that will amount to **** all. I'm not even exaggerating, I am 100% right on this.

This isnt even the first time. Look at the **** they did in Vietnam. We can justify ANYTHING.

Tbh there's no way he'll get done in The Hague but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he could end up in an British court, one things for sure he'll never be allowed to forget his decision now that the cats out of the bag.

He's spinning it even now. Him and his mate Alistair. Both are churning the chilcott report to focus ONLY on the admission that British service men and women were ill-prepared. Well that's not all the inquiry has concluded. The main finding was they were wrong to invade Iraq. They need to be pinned down on this by EVERY journalist or person they speak to. No wriggle room should be given. They were wrong to invade iraq.

He tries to rewrite history by claiming they followed the UN route when he categorically did not.

He tries even now to claim everyone believed Saddam had WMDs when there were plenty who doubted it... including the UN weapons inspector who had been in Iraq for the period up to the late 90's.

The biggest logic fail in all this was that Saddam... a meglomaniac who had weapons of mass destruction A) didnt give them up to save his own skin <doh> and B) decided never to use them despite facing complete, inevitable capitulation (having lost a war 12 years earlier) <doh>

I ask myself this, time and again - would Harold Wilson or Jim Callaghan have carried the US's bags based on the information that was available? Wilson knocked back Johnson (actually one of his political heroes) and wouldn't even send a ceremonial battalion to Vietnam. Callaghan would have said no as well. But of this I have no doubt - had The Wicked Witch still been in power we would have gone hook-line-and-sinker. And why isn't Murdoch, the principle cheerleader for Iraq, and who knew every bit as much intel as anyone, not mentioned in all this?

Thatcher would have gone with the Yanks, but she would have had an exit plan and would have made sure the troops had the right kit. She would also have stood up to Bush when he suggested stupid moves, such as disbanding the Iraqi army. Blair was just a poodle for Bush, if Bush had thrown a stick Blair would have run after it and brought it back to him.
