Don't get insulting. If you posted players in our price range, clearly you thought we should look at signing them, all I've said is berbatov isn't someone we should look at.
I don't even think he could do a job at his age. How many did he score for Fulham? And he was 3 years younger then.
You really do make lots of assumptions. I'm not speaking for him but saying we can afford someone and saying we should sign them are very different things.
Posting "Here's a list of players we could afford" in the City transfer thread, and receiving a response of "We shouldn't buy Player X on the list you just provided" is really not an inappropriate response. There seems to be a few on here, yourself included, who I've noticed like to post opinion pieces, and then ark up when they receive a counter-view. It's as if people forget this is a discussion board. I have no issue having a discussion over something people say, but if they want to get personal or narky because someone dared disagree with them, then that's on them. We could afford thousands of players, posting a shortlist of said players in this list would only be done for one reason.
He's obviously past his best and we're unlikely to be interested in him, but he's a brilliant player who could still do a job for someone, he was still playing in the Champions League last year. I was surprised that he was only on £23k a week in Greece.
I've never once forgotten that this is a discussion board. I just have issue with people who take what I said, decide I meant something different, and then reply to that different point that I hadn't made.
So you honestly believe that posting a shortlist of players in our transfer thread wasn't a proposal that we consider signing any of them? How'd he do in the CL out of interest? I can only go off what he achieved last time he was in the PL, when he was 3 years younger.
I didn't follow Monaco in the Champions League, so I've no idea how he did, other than I remember him scoring a decent goal against Arsenal. When he left, their owner said he was 'clearly among the greatest strikers who have played for Monaco', so I assume he was half decent for them. He was excellent at Fulham.
If you want to call 4 goals in half a season excellent... Monaco musn't have had many good strikers play for them then, 7 in 26 is pretty average. He scored 1 in 9 for Monaco in the CL, which was that goal against Arsenal, then none in 5 for his Greek team. He managed 4 in 17 in the Greek league. I really don't think he'd be very good.
If we had a striker who scored 20 goals in 54 games, over eighteen months while we were in the Premier League, we'd be ****ing ecstatic.
Of course. Are you suggesting he would score 20 in 54 for us over the next season and a half? I ignored the season before as he was on loan and looking to impress to earn a big money move. He's a lazy striker who moves where the money is best for him. He's Ben Arfa-esque and would be worse than useless in a relegation battle, which is why Fulham shipped him off halfway through the season. EDIT: Looks like my point is useless, thought the first season was a loan when it was a two year deal.
He's a great player who's past his best and I'm neither suggesting we sign him, or that we'll be remotely interesting in signing him. You don't half argue about some stupid ****e.
So you're arguing for the sake of arguing? Eh? I'm arguing the exact thing you just said in your first sentence. This all started because someone said we could afford him and I said we shouldn't look at him. Why anyone felt the need to argue with my observation is beyond me.
He really does have a majestic talent for taking what someone says, interpreting that a completely different way and then arguing with the point that he claims was made. It's extraordinary.
