In that case we should be saying there should never have been a referendum. Put it this way, would any rational person want a referendum on capital punishment? Hopefully not because we know it will probably have a majority for it. You can't blame the people there for exercising their right to vote no matter how stupid, you can only blame the irresponsibility of the government for not seeing the idiocy of such folly.
Yep which is why my theory relies on putting pressure on MPs (particular the Tory MPs) who were leaning towards Remain. It's worth a try imo that's all I can say. It's such a divisive, sore, emotive subject and people (including MPs) feel strongly about it because there is no real majority either way. I bet some remain MPs are just looking for an excuse... just like some voters are, to scupper it.

Not really, MP's fear for their position all the time and if one received 100 letters demanding he vote remain and 50 demanding he vote leave he would publicly say he went remain (his actual vote is another matter).
There shouldn't have been, but we all knew that anyway! You'd be surprised how many people would vote in its favour if you used the death to *****s angle as part of the vote. Which is essentially similar to what the leave campaign have done but with immigrants instead.
No mean the Remain MPs. At the moment they're relatively quiet, but imagine they have the excuse during a parliamentary debate BEFORE any vote where they can say... The public opinion in our consituencies is to remain and while advisory referendum says leave, the case to remain based on the impact on our local economy, jobs, property market etc is such that I feel it's in our interest to remain.
The results in most local areas were decided by more than 50 votes. And if you say you voted differently to how the majority in you area (assuming representative for constituency) voted, people will ask questions. Saying you got some letters will come across as a feeble response to an actual referendum result.
Those were arbitrary figures, the point I was trying to make is that they will fear the strength of feeling in their constituencies and make a show to come down on the side of that.
There's already been a vote on the strength of feeling in the various areas, and we've seen how that went. As for the bigger picture, if the majority of MPs then vote Remain and we don't leave, that's just going to reinforce the impression (at least to some people) that politicians don't listen to the people, and would probably strengthen support for fringe parties, or at least lessen support for the current batch of MPs.
If the vote is broken down to constituency level and counted that way, it comes out even more strongly in favour of leaving.
This is the point. And I'm not saying it will work, but that's the best that the Remain voters can hope for. At the end of the day, the split is 52/48 not some overwhelming majority either way. For that reason, if you're looking to invest energy into any campaign, wasting it on a second referendum is pointless imo. This atleast has some democratic basis. Not saying it will work but it has some merit simply because 16.3m people + more? could have their weight behind it.
I get what you mean but try not to get into a long discussion on a forum because it's not an easy format to explain ideas or thinking on. That is why sometimes you will see me just say "ok", I have decided it is either pointless arguing or I am putting things over poorly. (unless I am wumming about football)

I get what you mean as well; I'm just sceptical about it's chances. And my local MP is technically Priti Patel - not sure on my chances of getting a Remain vote there...
