My wife went to buy a new car today - another Fiat 500 as she likes the one she's got. She had an option to get just a normal one, or for £20 extra a month(which I offered to pay) she could have had a cracking red Abarth version with a proper engine and fun performance. She chose the normal one and as a result I'm not remotely interested in it, and will never drive it. She has known that I've been a bit of an Abarth fan for years, but because if my job, can't really have one myself....is she being a selfish bitch by choosing the boring one, when it wasn't a cost issue, wasn't a colour issue, and isn't even a big increase on insurance and running costs(which again, I offered to pay any difference)? She enjoyed the test drive in both, the equipment levels were similar.... I just don't understand her decision at all.
Am really pissed off with her, like proper pissed off but trying not to show it...I was planning on doing a few things this weekend with the family, I don't think I'll bother now, is that unreasonable?

She obviously knows you too well. ;)

Not well enough it seems. She can sort the thing out herself now though, tyres, services and everything else that goes with car ownership including finding the best insurance quotes, all of which I used to do for her. She can also pay for it all too which will be a first.
You must give me the name of your charm school. :)

Umm... yes, it is unreasonable, as is calling your wife a bitch :emoticon-0146-punch She sounds very much like me, no interest in cars at all, I just need them to be comfortable to drive and reliable. I don't know what an Abarth is but she's probably happy and confident driving something she knows and quite possibly thought that the car would become more yours than hers. Don't mean to be harsh (well, yes, I probably do) but grow up, for goodness sake!
This is a woman who used to own a mini cooper S and drives like a bloody rally cross champ...she loves to drive and drives fast when she can. The car I wanted her to get is the same car that she currently has, just with better performance, suspension and brakes. One car would have been absolutely fine for popping to the shops or the commute to work, the other would have been much more fun and a more pleasant place to be when we go out for trips as a family, or any longer journeys than just a few miles AND equally capable of popping to the shops in....I was very disappointed in her decision to put it mildly.

Have you asked her - calmly and without any accusations - why she made the decision she did? Just because the decision isn't right for you, it might be right for her...

I drive a boring cheap car as it is just a work tool and I thought it would be selfish to spend a lot on a car that nobody wants but me...I can feel another alfa romeo coming on now though, as I was wrong apparently
