Let's take a positive spin on this.

He cost us £11m I think? We got two years service (on the whole did his job well), and we make a £23m+ profit. People keep saying we can't keep buying cheap and selling high.

Why not.
We can.
We are masters at it.
We are Southampton.
We follow the Southampton Way.

(Sorry the inner Ralph slipped out)

Buy.
Add value.
Sell.
Reinvest.

I can't see how a business model like this could possibly work anywhere :1980_boogie_down:

... is nobody going to blame Mane?

Why though? Footballers are professionals, they have every right to decide where they want to ply their trade. , I have no problem with any player's desire to move clubs, as long as they're acting professional about it. Like Wanyama, Clyne or Shaw, and unlike Lovren and Lallana. That's why the former are remembered fondly, and the latter as dickheads.

I do have faith in the board to keep us improving but a lot on here are just assuming we will keep uncovering manes (and developing shaws). We can't assume this is the case. Just like doom mongerers can't assume that when we sell our best players we will decline. I hope we can push on but am not expecting it as a given. Balance.

I could do with a bit of Ralph's positivity today. Can't remember feeling this negative. Sort of glad Mane has gone/is going now, as it is barely registering on me.

I agree with what you're saying, but it would be nice for just once if we could have the continuity of a settled squad for maybe two seasons. I believe that much of Leicester's success is down to the fact that their squad is largely the same for the last two years or more.

It wasn't common knowledge that Mane would leave (not referring now to post of GucciMane, but to a similar thing that was mentioned before). It was common knowledge that Wanyama would leave, it came as a shock to no one. It was thought that Mane might leave for an exorbitant fee, but with a good chance to stay as he had two years more contract. As for Pelle, it was thought that it wouldn't be a surprise if he left nor if he stayed, it's a 50-50 situation.

I am not assuming that. I am patiently waiting to see if we do, rather than throw my toys around. This is where the balance is.

The timing of Pelle's transfer would cause more problems then the transfer itself. If he was the first to leave us, I guess the fans would accept it calmly. But now when you've already lost two key players, it suddenly seem a hell of a more important to keep the others, like Pelle (you might argue if he's a key player, but he's certainly important).

Yes, I know but you've taken my line on it's own. It was on the back of reading page after page of people moaning at the board. I was making a point, not moaning at Mane.

I would rather that we sold him now for an excellent price than wait another year and get maybe half or less. So long as the proceeds are reinvested in the squad, it's fine by me. Mané finished the season well but is prone to a strop and picked up dumb cards. Not looking forward to facing him, mind you.

This is the Shaw etc transfers all over again. Get told players are leaving months in advance yet don't accept it. Then when it is a done deal go crazy.
