My initial thought would certainly have offended Gordon, but on reflection this is a sensible thought. You MAY think I'm mad but if he becomes a mod he will have to provide maltesemick and Syd with a few verifiable details, allowing us to meet up with him before EVERY match.

Don't know if you can do this or not, but you know on your profile page where you have "friends" - how about having the same for enemies? I may be thinking of somebody, or not.........

Having a bit of banter witnh WUMs ( even those from up the road) is good fun. Even having Big_Chris on here posting his nonsense is fine.

It's when it decends into mindless insults that it becomes tedious and it's the waste of space that bothers me.

Can't we just ban the nutters like, I imagine, most of us would like to ban them from the games themselves

I understand what your saying mate. <ok>

But personally I love when they come on here with their fail WUM efforts, I have genuinely Laughed Out Loud reading their posts or our fellow Mackems responses.

Lets be fair most of them come onto threads that are clearly set up as bait for them.

You will always get the odd idiot jumping into threads just ignore them they will go away.

Hence why I did not have a go at that bright spark trollwellyweringmackemninja or what ever his name is above. (and it worked he didn't get the attention he so dearly wanted he didn't return.) Any other thread I may have strung him up by his balls mind. <ok>

Just the same as I wouldn't go on the Mugs board and expect not to get a torrent of abuse.

The only problem I would have is if the banter turned into actual threats of violence.
 
Just thought I would add my two penneth worth to this debate...I too dislike the constant use of bad language; it has always been my opinion that it is nothing but a substitute for reasoned argument and debate... However, I can't believe that Syd is receiving criticism over this. For goodness sake, he has only been doing the job for two days, and already he has had it in the neck from both sides of the fence!
The long-term success of this site will be determined by the level of debate, and this will evolve one way or the other in the coming weeks. It is my opinion that Syd is going about this in the right way by letting things flow as much as posssible and getting a feel for what posters want and don't want.

Well Not606 has a swear-filter you could use for work. As well as turning off images/sigs in your settings <ok>

And there lies the problem, or not, depends on how we see things and how w develop. I honestly believe that the vast majority of posters on this board will have no problem and good honest debate and banter will be enjoyed. We all know that at times emotions run high, temprature rises and maybe we all say or do things we regret. We also know we will get posters who will cause trouble and we will deal with them i needed.

On threads that are designed to attrack our mates from up the road things will become heated but not all the time. I keep coming back to the same thing, we, the members, will get the forum we deserve.

Same as my disagreeing with you on this doesn't make me right. <ok>

Same as making a statement that if I swear, I have lost the argument, that would be a generalisation used against me.

By that reckoning when me and my mates are in the pub having a right go at each other and we all are swearing, we have all lost the argument through sweariing!
 
No, it just means that there is no longer an argument, just people swearing at each other, which in my experience usually ends up with it escallating into violence where there is no real winners.

Why thank you Syd! :) I must say I did enjoy my debate with a mag fan who was also interested in having a decent discussion on how our clubs are performing etc etc. A little bit of friendly banter included of course!

Gordon, I have to say that wherever you go, there will always be a few mindless idiots that find it impossible to communicate without getting angry and swearing. The rewarding part of it for me, is to rise above it. Once you come back with a suitable retort or correction to what the individual is ranting about, they generally pipe down and eventually leave, as in the case of the Carroll thread this morning. If you're very lucky, you might also get an apology! It's very early days my friend and it would be disappointing to see you leave the forum without at least waiting for the dust to settle. Hang in there and see what develops :)
