Hi! First time poster long time lurker, are we getting ripped off if this Mane transfer is true?

I was not a fan of the lad until last season, he seemed to have no brain and was such a poor player, £40M is crazy and I'd rather us look elsewhere, I imagine you would feel the same way.

So putting aside the ifs and buts and rights and wrongs, if we get him what are we getting?

Mane is the most dangerous attacking player we've had since MLT, in my opinion.

I'm fairly sure I've seen you post in here before. Anyway, we try not to block up our board with loads of threads. We have a transfer thread and this could have been asked in there.

No problem, you probably didn't realise, but hopefully the mods will merge it.

He is quality, but with your track record with our players, you'll probably ruin him if you get him.

You could save yourself a lot of hassle by just buying a red and white striped shirt and a ticket at St Mary's.

On his day he is virtually unplayable, but is pretty inconsistent. Would be a good signing for you I think, and if he can find some consistency as he matures then you have got yourself one hell of a player

Mane is the real deal. I don't want him to go this summer at ANY cost.

Would be a terrible decision to sell him.

I suppose I could have done that but I don't tend to think very much at all and my question may have got swallowed up in a transfer thread.

Interesting opinions it looks like he's quite highly regarded, If we get him it'll make Lallanas inclusion into the team interesting as if he's on the bench he may want a move. The fee is high but if we can get a good fee for Benteke then I suppose it's worth it.

    He is a match winner.

I can understand you not taking any interest in lowly southamptons scores but do you not take much notice in your own teams results. Last season, Liverpool 1 Southampton 1, saints scorer Mane. Southampton 3 Liverpool 2, Mane scorer of 2 saints goals.

    How's caulker getting on?

He was good throughout last season but not so good before that I don't remember every score and I'm sure he had his moments but in general he has only started showing any form last season. I think Caulker played one game and has now gone back and said goodbye.

Why do quite a few of us have to respond in a bitter manner? The bloke just asked a fair question. Give him a fair answer rather than wind him up

It's ok fella I've been on here a while and don't bite easily. I like to talk footy so wumming is done tounge in cheek only as if you take the piss all the time people stop talking footy and think that you only have one intention.

I'm quite worried about the potential signing as I've seen him be a complete passenger on the pitch but granted I don't see him week after week. £40M is too much and I'd rather us spread that over 2 players.

Personally I don't agree with the inconsistent claims. The outcomes maybe inconsistent, but he is a player who puts in a decent shift, so should fit with Klopps style. He also never shys away from wanting the ball or wanting to take players on. For me he is a very special player and a big upgrade on Lallana.

    So what's missing?

Like us, you know someone signing for Liverpool is not going to be top draw(yet) or he'll sign for one of the currently respected big teams in world football.

For me his biggest weakness is shooting. We know for example that a Coutinho can shift the ball and create a little bit of space and smash it in the top corner. Sadly I've never seen Mane do that. With his pace, defenders back off and he has the skill to create the space, but instead of a shot flying into the top corner it usually scuffs and trickles harmlessly into the keepers lobbed cap.

Without that ability to grab a goal out of nothing in this way like a Bale or an Andros Townsend then there is a question mark over him becoming considered world class.

Perhaps this can be coached and encouraged, because if it can be you have yourself a 20 goal + player

Very good. When running at teams on the break, he tends to pick the right pass.
When I mentioned shooting being a problem, it's also partly between the ears because he looks for a pass when perhaps a shot is the better option, but he has created a lot of chances for us over the last two seasons.

Crossing is nothing special, but it's not Jordan Henderson embarrassing. He has tended to perform better through the middle than out wide though.

Or we could just change our name to Liverpool Reserves..

Half of our squad would probably want to go to Liverpool if they got relegated to the Championship and we were top two.

The 'fun' of this is rapidly wearing off and I'm losing my sense of humour over the whole topic.

I think Mane really needs to look at the (lack of) progress/improvement made by Lallana, before even considering a move to you.
If Lallana didn't work as hard as he does, for the 60/70 minutes he is on the pitch, I think he would be a bench player, rather than a starter.
Just my opinion, but he's gone backwards with you.

I agree, he'd get goals for you but can't hit a barn door now so it's all huff and puff but no end product. When I watch him it's like he's trying too hard I don't think he's handling the expectaion very well.
