For me this isn't about how much they are worth individually, it's about value to the team. Clyne, Wanyama and to an extent Shaw, Lallana, Lambert, Lovren and Schneiderlin were all big losses individually but were playing in positions where finding a replacement or changing things around was do-able (and done).

I feel with Mane that his pace, goal threat and trickery allows players like Davis, Tadic, the two in midifeld and (perhaps to a lesser extent) Long, to have less of a burden of having to score. To put it another way, if Mane was to leave, do I think we could sign a replacement which would allow the team to play in the same way - no. I feel like selling Mane would mean having to find a winger with a goal threat, a number 10 with more goals (but as good at using the ball as Davis), adding goals form the two in midfield and, possibly, a striker with a better strike rate than Long. That is an enormous upheaval from selling just one player.

That could all change in January, next cummer or even next month if we sign a couple of top quality players that make that possible but until then I'd be very reluctant to sell Mane at any cost.

Hope he proves me wrong but I think those injuries have seriously ****ed him up both mentally and physically.

Would be very surprised if he ever hits top form ever again. A sad thing to say but unfortunately it happens in football.

I think the very best that we can hope for is that he agrees a new contract this summer, but on a private agreement with the club that we will sell him next summer for that same £30m - £35m. So effectively the new contract wouldn't extend his stay with us in anyway, but rather ensure that we still get top price for him in 12 months time.

Yeah I get the argument, if we sell now we make more money, but surely, we need to show other clubs, you can't keep shopping at Saints FC, everytime we have a successful season!
 
Unless Mane flatly refuses to play for Saints ever again, I don't understand this talk of getting loads of money now because we won't get it later. We are in Europe so we need to keep hold of our best players. Who knows if we will be in Europe next year. We don't need the money and would have to buy an untried player to replace him anyway. Keep him another year, go for all the cups and then if he wants to go fair enough. It's about football not money, this isn't 2009.

Mane would like to go. Not saying it is a done deal but I can see why it could happen.

Beefy - does 'would like to go' mean that there is no chance of him staying under any circumstances? Do you know what the next step he is looking for - presumably Champions Leave?

So you'd imagine we will say to him to stay another season, and see what happens next Summer. I know he went on strike to force a move to us when he joined, but hopefully he won't. Would be odd to sell him if he isn't forcing or agitating a move, unless Liverpool offer £40 million or so.

I give it 60% chance he is leaving.
 
Career wise Mane would be daft not to stay. One year Europs experience will make him a better player. Liverpool fans are already questioning his 'attitude' and the rumours haven't even been confirmed yet. Leaving for CL football and more money is understandable. Giving up European football for more money is the characteristic of someone who we dont need at the club anyway.

Personally I think Mane is much stronger and more mature character these days than portrayed but some fans. I think he does like it here and is enjoying his football so I would hope he stays a year or - even better - commits to a long term deal.

Yep. Price is the only thing stopping me from saying 99%. I haven't heard anything about what they are offering. Just was told get prepared to see him gone.
 
It seems we won't keep any young players betond their initial contracts when they sign. If they do well they are good enough for champs league and we don't have the wage structure to tempt them to stay. Simples

Same seems to apply to our youth also. Jwp aside, but really only because he hasn't made himself a first team mainstay. If he was in the starting 11 and a champs league team came in for him I'm pretty sure he'd be off as well, next summer!!

In all honesty, I Kinda accepted he would be gone midway thru the season. I Just hope we bring in a Top quality player to replace him, He is a special talent and will be sorely missed.
