I just do on not have a good feeling about this at all, there is no reason for this, I just don't. We could really balls up our recent progress if this is the wrong appointment and that will be very disappointing.
It would be disappointing, but as I have said for the last 7 years... not everything will be an upward curve. If it doesn't work out, we will put it right, but come on mate, let's worry about the bad times if the bad times come. For now, let's back the good work done til now and get behind the team.
Give me an honest answer here Shepherd's. Up until a few days/week ago, did you know anything about this man? I didn't.
Every team has a balls up appointment in them....we wouldn't be the first, but we have to live with it and hope for the best. I am just in the wait and see mode...not excited, but then I wasn't in on the interviews. Something grabbed Les's attention and he's no mug....an appointment won't be on a whim or a single interview. However, even Uncle Les may be wrong (reaches for soap mouthwash). I don't buy this idea that he is a last resort....some fans seem to think we were turned down at every corner like an importuning lady of the night...some managers that we liked may never even have been in contention and others may have failed on some other big point.
If we appointed Puel because we could get no one better, I'd be very disappointed. But if we are choosing Puel when we could have had Pellegrini, Klinsman, Silva et al, then that says to me that better informed people, with a great track record, believe he is a better choice. Which says a lot.
There is a very strong chance that he was the first choice all along, so I will definitely trust Uncle Les on this or any appointment made and they will get 100% backing from me!
I was torn about Pellegrini...would have loved having a well known manager...experienced, impressive for the club, safe pair of hands, but just had a small niggle that we might be willing to suspend our ideals (at least temporarily) in order to opt for safety. We have always avoided the usual suspects that the media throw at us...though Pellegrini would have been from left field. The club should be flattered that he approached us....shows how the club has risen...but I suspect he wasn't about to change his management ways at his age. He would have been the safe answer.
Ahem I think you'll find it's my dog not Saint Helen's and he has said unless he gets steak every day he is ruling himself out.
FLT; the thing with the last two appointments is that both has exhibited a lot of positive traits; MP had done well at a selling club until they oversold; he came very highly rated by the Spanish football press. Koeman has worked miracles at a bankrupt club and used limited resources and academy players to have three good years in the Dutch League. I do not get a warm fuzzy feeling about this; its seems to have been a process of elimination rather than a 'must-have'. Hopefully I am proved wrong once again; but this does not feel like an inspired choice as the last two have been.
I can understand some being concerned about Puel not having the "standing", to impress our squad, and I am sure the board will also be aware of the possibility of 1 or 2 potentially using this to agitate for a move. It is a risk, because the timing of the appointment, will give the players the entire transfer window, in which to decide "Remain or Leave" ( where have I read that before?). It was different when MP came in, mainly because of Cortese but also because it was mid January, so departures were unlikely, giving MP several months to win round players that were originally unsure of his credentials. I read the article DTLW posted, earlier in the thread, and was impressed with how he appears to improve players and with the style of play, so potentially he is perfect for us.
BLANC NETS €22M COMPENSATION PACKAGE Laurent Blanc has been handed a €22m compensation package after leaving his role as PSG boss, says L'Equipe. The Frenchman parted company with the Ligue 1 champions on Thursday. (Sky) Put this on here as he will probably be the next favourite
That is an obnoxious amount of money, especially on the day my forthcoming pension has been shafted good and proper!
We need to get the Rangers board to recruit for us. They've only been playing for four years but have already won 54 titles.
