He's a no-one, but the sad thing is, its believable.
I wonder if I tweeted a picture of Sadio Mane and wrote underneath 'Mane expected to sign extension at Southampton as he has said how happy he is at the club' if it would be as believable!
Obviously I would need to set up a twitter account with an account name something like 'RonBurgundy-SFC' to make it really authentic.

Have to say the picture was a nice touch....fooled me into thinking it was someone ITK. Too plausible though. :(

Again he isn't a no one.

How much do Liverpool still owe us? And if they owe us a decent wedge shouldn't we ask them to pay that first.

Once again we find ourselves in the invidious position of holding onto a player who may or may not want to leave; selling him now and maxing the transfer fee or keeping him for another season and getting reduced transfer fee; all against the backdrop of being thought of as a selling club and undermining our credentials if we keep selling our prized assets.

Easy to write but we have to sell Mane or other dealers; we have to stop selling to rival teams in the EPL as we directly and indirectly hurt our chances of advancement in the EPL.

Not enjoying this transfer window so far. If Mane goes I am struggling to see how we are going to improve or maintain the quality of our squad for this coming season.

Saints should tell every club to piss off!
Surely with the new TV deal, they don't need to sell, what they do need to do, is break the streak of selling our top players, every season!

I'd much rather sell him for £30m or £35m this summer, than £20m next summer when he only has one year left.

I think the very best that we can hope for is that he agrees a new contract this summer, but on a private agreement with the club that we will sell him next summer for that same £30m - £35m. So effectively the new contract wouldn't extend his stay with us in anyway, but rather ensure that we still get top price for him in 12 months time.

It looks likely that he is leaving, but I don't see a scenario where he goes into his final year.
All the first team are getting pay raises, so he would be a fool to turn that extra money down for a season.
We either sell or he signs an extension

I strongly suspect that you're right, but I'd suggest that if he's a principled, moral-focused man (I have absolutely no idea if he is or not) then he might reject a new contract if it is the case that we deny him the chance to leave this summer. Afterall, signing a new contract really would just benefit him from a payrise point of view - he'd be off 12 months later either way. Fans are always complaining about footballers being money-grabbing so and so's, so in that respect Mane should be applauded somewhat for rejecting a new contract if that situation were to arise. (Yes Mane would be paid better by moving elsewhere, but at least the move would not be 100% about salary. Whereas signing a new contract when he wants to leave absolutely would be).

(Unlikely, and very hypothetical I know, but just putting it out there)

Your sentiment is correct, but please just answer this question: what happens if a £20-40m asset doesn't sign a new contract?

He doesn't have to, but he has to complete his contract. Morgan, Wanyama and Mane all settled down after a minor strop in 2 cases. Morgan and Wanyama were probably told they could leave after another season....don't know about Mane because he has a longer contract. A balance has to be achieved between footballing and financial needs....Saints have shown they can do both if needed. We all suspected that we would lose Pelle, Wanyama and possibly Mane*....how that pans out will depend on who we buy in.

*Not Mane<wah><wah><wah><wah>
