.............perm any 2 from 5? Earnie - Miller - Parkin - Mason - Gestede Craig Conway has just got to start wide left, so who from the above five should start upfront next Sunday?
Earnie and Miller with Gestede on the bench as an option for changing style of play. With Earnie and Miller we will have to keep the ball on the deck much more than in the past as they are not going to get much in the air. The bu££eration factor is having only 5 on the bench this season - keeper (Heaton), out and out defender (Keinan), versatile mid fielder/defender (Darcy), mid fielder (Cowie) and attacker (Gestede). So only 1 striker on the bench or 2 if Malky wants a more attacking approach. Gestede would be my sub of choice, Mason next and Parkin - playing his football somewhere else. Malky won't be able to keep them all happy. Midfield is interesting too. Whitts and Conway are givens, my preference would be Gunnarsson and Kiss with Cowie on the bench. Of course if he goes 4 3 3 then all that goes out of the window.
For me it has to be Earnie and Miller. As promising as the other two look, especially Mason, I don't think they're at the 'league starting 11 stage' yet. I think the Beast will be a bit part player this year more so than last (maybe cup games or as injury cover) but hey, MM knows better than me so time will tell.
I thought the 5 subs rule only came into it if either side couldn't name a full bench....or have I got that completely wrong?
I would play 5 in midfield against West Ham with only one upfront. My team would be: Marshall_________________________ ____McNaughton______Hudson__________Gerrard_______Taylor____ _______________Gunnarsson_____________Kiss__________________ ___Cowie_______________Whittingham________________Conway____ _________________________Miller_____________________________
I DON'T KNOW!!! I concur though, it's a nice problem to have. As for the bench, utility players will be more important this time round. Darcy will be key as he can cover the back 4 and centre mid. Same if Bellamy came back, he'd be great to have on the bench as he could cover the wide positions and the strikers. We're still short 1, possibly 2, out and out wide men, though I suppose Whitts could move wide if necessary. I'm assuming a 'horses for courses' team this year with 442, 4411, 451 and 433 played as is needed for the oposition. Not so much worrying about how they set up, but what gives us the best chance to win.
Good idea as the Spammers have a very strong mid field - lets hope Parker leaves before our game. If we do that we will need an energetic pressing game - not sure about Cowie and Whitts in the scenario. Miller will need an awful lot of support otherwise their back 4 will come straight through him and we will get swamped in the middle of the park. However, they are poor at the back and by playing only 1 up front we would not be attacking their weak point. Over to you Malky!!!
4411 with Mason behind Miller could be an option. He seems to have the engine for it. Sit with the centre midfiend two without the ball and bust a gut to support Miller when we have it.
i dont think we'll see much of parkin this season hopefully, personally i dont think he's anywhere near the quality of striker a promotion chasing team require. for me i'm not sure its a guaranteed 4-4-2 - hopefully MM will be a manager who knows more than one formation also, whats the logic with the 5 subs then?
Through the whole of the Football League many clubs struggled to field 7 subs giving their opponents (if they had 7 subs) a potentially unfair advantage. I think we had this problem on occasion during the season although had no difficulty in the latter stages. I guess many clubs, particularly in Divs. 1 & 2 financially find it difficult to get 7 subs so the restriction creates a more level playing field. I must admit that I would have thought the 7 sub situation would have stayed in the Championship, being the 4th or 5th best supported league in Europe.
"With Earnie and Miller we will have to keep the ball on the deck much more than in the past" Now that's a novelty for a Cardiff side!
Jack commenting on a thread which has absolutely nothing to do with them and contains no references whatsoever to them. What a surprise!!! And they say they are not obsessed. Once a numpty always a numpty and this one qualifies on all counts. Thanks for your considered, witty and erudite comment Sh!t on the Road.
They just can't stop themselves can they? They just love licking windows. http://media.photobucket.com/image/licking windows/raven_ryyder/licking-windows-thumb.jpg?o=2

ITIWRAN, I work with a couple Man City fans and they are licking their lips (as opposed to windows) with that date in mind.
