Midfielder agrees one year extension ahead of 2016/17 campaign

  • Henry extends QPR contract
  • Midfielder signs one year extension
  • Hasselbaink believes Henry's 'experience will be key'
MIDFIELDER Karl Henry has signed a new one year deal at QPR.

The 33 year-old, who initially joined Rangers in the summer of 2013, made 39 appearances in all competitions for the R’s last season, scoring a sublime goal in our 1-0 victory over Bristol City on the final day of the campaign.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink expressed his delight at Henry putting pen to paper, commenting: “Karl is a fantastic professional and has shown a first class attitude in my time here.

“He is an experienced player and a leader on and off the pitch for us. He leads by example with his application and commitment.

“He’s naturally a very fit lad, he can play a lot of games and he knows this division inside-out. The experience he has of playing in the Championship will be key for us next season.”

Henry has made a total of 103 appearances for QPR in his three years at Loftus Road and he’s pleased to be extending his stay, adding: “I’m very pleased to have my future sorted out.

“I was happy to stay if the club wanted me to, so I’m really pleased they did. I’m delighted to have it sorted ahead of pre-season.”

He added: “The manager was paramount in my decision to stay here. He sat me down at the end of last season and made it clear what he expects from me.

“I’m very confident about the season ahead with this manager in charge.

“If we can find the consistency we’re all craving, high performance levels week in week out, I think we can have a good campaign.”

Good move. We need him in midfield, we don't have any other player that can spoil and break up potential attacks like he does.

Welcome back Wats, or are you still in France?

Alive and well in the UK, thanks.

Henry may be a nice bloke but he's just not a very good footballer. Simple as that for me. I'm sure a bit of scouting could find us a player on the same money 10 years younger of at least the same calibre.

My sentiments exactly.
