French Police have always been a bit heavy handed, from the traffic police and up. It's the way they deal with police stuff. Their attitude is... You're in France.
The latest horrific scenes from Lille... Early reports are coming in from Lille that innocent England and Russian supporters are coming under a barrage of attacks from well-trained, mindless, photographers and journalists. One fan, Dmitri, from Moscow, declared; “It was like a war-zone out there. I saw entire film crews running around, filming anyone, women and children too, they just don’t care.” Footage captured on a local person’s hand-held phone, seemed to clarify the allegations that some of the journalists are armed. In one scene, a sound engineer can be seen dangerously wielding a boom mic close to a group of England supporters, seemingly hellbent on recording anything that can later be described as ‘aggressive chanting’. English fan, Clare, 31, from Nottingham, told us; “The police don’t seem to be doing anything. They just allow these journalists to roam around freely among the crowds. It’s almost like they don’t even want to prevent them from reporting.” Another fan described to us the level of organisation behind the aggressors; “I saw a small group of up to a dozen journalists. They were all wearing black t-shirts with the word’s ‘BBC Crew’ emblazoned across the back. I saw three of them conduct an interview with a lone England fan. They had him surrounded, and then just piled in. Three on one, it just isn’t right.” After the journalists interviewed the man, they then handed out what journalist-experts refer to as ‘business cards’, sickeningly asking people to contact them with any further information. Steve, 24, from Hull, “It’s insane. I’ve seen reporters from France, England, Germany, even Australia. I know not all journalists are bad, but unfortunately the irresponsible minority tarnish the whole group. I for one won’t be buying any of their newspapers in the future, that’s for sure.” Further exacerbating the situation, reports have come in that back in the UK, certain notorious media organisations have been glorifying their journalists behaviour by shamelessly printing their stories online. All this creates a rather disturbing atmosphere, less than 24 hours before England play some humpback whales in a game of football. B.Peters
