Spain wasn't set up to accommodate a centre forward though and Spain were terrible in the world cup to boot. He got no service at all.
Lukaku showed last night exactly why the 60 million or so being talked about is laughable. He's had countless games like last night. Poor first touch and no application. He is a solid premier league forward but I've never seen anything to suggest he is world class and he's too inconsistent. He is still young of course but I wouldn't spend anywhere near that on him. He is worth what we sold him for at the moment, around 30 million.
Yeah I'd say that's about right. He seemed to fade last season when it really mattered. Might be to do with Everton having a poor season though.
Yeah i would not pay more than £40m for him, purely because, although he probably isn't worth that, Everton don't have to sell and would want to make profit, if they did sell.
You have top pay extra if the selling club is reluctant usually.
The reason i want him back is because he is still young and I have seen enough of him to think that, at his young age, there is every reason to believe he WILL be world class when he hits his peak, he is still only 23 or something, and strikers dont normally peak till about 26. So if he gets 3 more seasons of regular games, he will blossom.
I understand Tobes is talking the, "He is our player, we want a gazillion quid yada yada" stance that HIAG took with Bale and the entire Liverpool board took with Suarez, but those players were in a different league to where Lukaku is right now in terms of ability.
Though he is probably right about the value being inflated, but I think any offer for him would outright rejected to be honest.
Everton don't need to sell, especially the best forward they have had in 10 years.

Oh I certainly agree it would take big money to get him, which is why I'd be reluctant to pay so much over market value to get a player who is not at the level we require right now but would be wasted on the bench.
With Everton coming into money and with an exciting new manager, they should for the next year at least refuse to sell any of their star names (unless silly bids are made). Barkley, Stones and Lukaku are all potentially top players. If they keep them and build a team around them, they could be the next Spurs in a year or 2 with a few shrewd signings to compliment them.
Buying from premier league teams is getting very difficult now as the next rung of clubs have enough money to resist the overtures of the bigger/richer clubs. That's why a lot of the big teams are looking to Germany, Italy and spain and trying to get players from their next best clubs (i.e those aside from the mega clubs like Bayern, Madrid and Barca who are also rich).
That's the problem he now has.
Him and his old man have been spouting off about his next destination since the season ended, and he patently wants to move on.
However, he appears to have forgotten about the bit where a club has to offer the asking price before we'll allow him to go. That asking price is £65m by all accounts. On last nights performance I can't see there being a long queue........the Euros has always been his window to show his value to prospective suitors, and he blew it in his first outing, so the pressure is now right on him.
If clubs baulk at the asking price, then he stays, as he's got 3 years remaining on his current deal, so we're under no pressure to sell this summer.
£40m would be laughed out of town, as we paid £28m 2 years ago and the market has exploded since and we'd not replace him for £40m
Yeah, no one is paying £65m for that guy.....probably ever.....so he is staying, if thats the case.
Where did you get that figure from by the way? The folk at Everton a really deluded if they think he is worth that.
But they probably don't, hence why thats the asking price.

He's a 1 in 2 PL striker mate, who's only just turned 23 but already has 4 full seasons as a first choice under his belt.
Where else are you going to get a proven 1 in 2 PL striker and how much are they going to cost?
That's where the valuation comes from, plus we don't have to sell - and more to the point - don't want to.
If he really kicks up a stink, then we might end up letting him go for a bit less, but the bare minimum would be twice what we paid you for him imo.
If no-one comes up with the cash, I can see a compromise deal being struck with him, where he signs a new contract on a higher salary, but he has a release clause for next summer if we don't make the top 4, like the RS did with Suarez
As i mentioned at the start of the thread he doesn't do it for me. He's not WC and i don't see him getting there if i'm honest. 65m is way too much. I probably wouldn't even go there for 40.
As for 1 in 2 proven PL striker, if we wanted one of those at less than 40 we could snag Benteke who would be cheaper and has a record that is still slightly better than lukakus even though he's had an absolute mare.

For that price you want a 0.8 goals per game striker or better.
Costa's ratio is about that in the last 3 seasons and he was half the price being touted for Lukaku.

Due to a buyout clause wasn't it? And 2 years ago - the market has rocketed since.

As I said above, I think he'll stay where he is. Everton are pricing him out of a move and that is their choice by right.

Yeah it was a buy out at 32m. 50 million seemed to be the going rate for a striker of his ilk at the time. Falcao and Cavani went for that the year before.
These were guys banging them in in the champions league though. Lukaku hasn't got to that level yet; albeit age on his side.
I don't get it? he's a good strong honest lad who we sold because he wasn't good enough to oust those ahead of him. He's down blinding at Everton and thats where he should stay! In my opinion at this moment in time he's still not good enough to come back to the bridge especially at the very stupid prices he has been associated with.
