Sorry to have to say this, but 'not606' has already become a 'free for all' abuse forum

BBC has standards, some of which were to the detriment of us decent posters, but at least they have some <ok>

'Not606' is full of swearing and abuse, tolerated without moderation, and that's not what I want from a message board . . . . I want friendly banter <ok>

Conversely, the I.T.L. ( Into the Light ) forum, is full of decent people who want to look after the site, and contains friendly banter without the abuse that 'Not606' is promoting - it's for people who do not want offensive language and abuse <ok>

If you want a 'free for all' as described above, stay with 'Not606'

Imagine during school holidays, when more children view forums like this, and what they read is full of aggressive swearing and abuse :emoticon-0138-think

I'm not a prude, as most of you will know, but that's not what I'd want my children to view :emoticon-0101-sadsm

'Not606' should be advertised as an Adult Forum but, unfortunately, it isn't :emoticon-0101-sadsm

I know some of you will revel in this, and be quick to reply with some mickey taking abuse ( yes, abuse :huh: ) but think about what you're condoning, and it you accept and are okay with it, so be it - that's your choice, but that's not the type of person I am.

I might be curious enough to view this at some point, but I have no plans to do so :emoticon-0145-shake

To be honest I'm not too fussed about the language - its heard on the terraces and the playgroud. Aggressive abusive and mindless prejudice should be acted upon.

Also a new MB needs time to evolve. I'm thankful that we've got a mod who is standing back. No doubt he'll be busy at times. To help report posts or send the mod a private message - people power and stuff
 
Well i haven't used it as mine's set to swearing but surely if i select the non - swearing option it would hide the swear word's, i know it's not just the swear word's that your refering to but just thought i would try and be a bit helpful.

I was very settled in 606 but seem's as though the makority of people have come over here, i will probanly stick with this forum as it's seems ok to me but if you do decide to go it's been a pleasure reading some of your view's

Can't say I agree with this mind, unless you've seen something I haven't?

However it's your choice at the end of the day, if you feel it isn't what your looking for I wish you well on your forum of choice.

I agree to an extent of not wanting 'kids' to see certain kinds of language, however surely the flip side to that coin is they hear, far, far worse at footy matches and will see similar things written elsewhere at some point anyway?? ... just my opinion mind.

Gordon I respect your opinion but object strongly to the way you suggest that all who dont agree are some sort of bad person who go through live swearin at children and accept bad behavour.

Its a very hard judgement to try and be fair to everyone, lets say I agree with you, because it is me you are getting at, and I simple delete and ban all bad language, and it would have to be all. We would then get lots of members, members who have rights just like you, shouting about how free speech is being stopped. Like you I dont like over the top and uneccassary swearing, but, whae deciding in moderating I try not to use my personal preferance but to act impartially and represent the views and wishes of ALL members of the Sunderland forum.

In my honest opinion the real swearing starts when Sunderland and Newcastle fans join together and in the article that upset you it was my opinion that the language was bad but not threatening, it also came from both sides. I let everyone know what I was doing, kept explaining why I was doing it, despite some attacks on me, kept monotoring the thread and closed it when I thought the tome was right.

Rather than call everyone on this forum if its me you think is wrong, tell me. If you want to take my place all you need to do is suggest I be replaced.
 
I have just read all of the Aunty Carol thread, Gordon, and admittedly it is the worst example of not-funny abuse from a certain Mag who has probably embarrassed his own board. Extreme dickhead.I genuinely expect Badger to have a quiet word especially as the individual's abuse of Syd was well out of order.

IMO one of the benefits of not-606 is that, like 606, fans have easy access to the borads of other clubs and I like that aspect. If it gets out of hand then I just stop reading that particular thread. It's not my style or what I enjoy.

On balance, most of us want an unmodded message board having experienced the fascist regime on 606. Occasional unfunny abusive stuff is the price we will pay in exchange for the worthwhile and amusing banter.

That's my preference and I think the majority here feel the same way.

ITL and SMB are single club message boards so less external intrusion.

Anyway, I hope you will hang around and give things a chance to settle down before making a final judgement.

Can I suggest Gordon that you read through the thread with the title Cattermole. You will find Sunderland and Newcastle fans debating Cattermole and Barton, banter and debate but no swear words. We will always have the extreme element on all forums but it will settle and they will move on.
 
I've only just logged in, and therefore missed the thread which I assume has led to this.
I don't swear (indeed, I once ran an application that scanned all my tweets and it concluded that I "swear like a mute"). However, apart from the General board, I can't say I've seen OTT swearing on here, apart from on the first day, which was to be expected.
I just ignore it and focus more on the point being made (if there is one).
 
The article in question should have been moderated from the first sign of personal abuse, and a standard would have been set, so I do think you were wrong to condone it, Syd.

You've now told everybody this abuse is acceptable ( from both sides ) and that's why it became a 'free for all' which, to me, is completely wrong for a forum presumably designed for friendly banter.

There's no way I would suggest changing the moderation team ( the team that there should be ) but I think you should have 'nipped this in the bud' and set a 'decency' standard <ok>

A standard wasn't set when the chance was there, resulting in intolerable abuse which was tolerated.

Replies so far suggest that I'm in the minority, which is what I expected, so there's no real need for you to change anything for the others.

When I joined this forum I expected members to respect each other, but this hasn't happened . . . . and won't if reciprocated abuse is condoned, and that's why I'm unhappy about it !
 
The no swearing option seems to work pretty well. Could it be operational automatically for juniors?

I simply dont agree Gordon and I think it very easy to go into overkill. I know many, many fans from both forums want what you want nd I want, good honest friendly banter and I dont believe anyone is saying anythig other than that. We also want freedom and respect and sometimes it means respecting other peoples views and opinions. I will continue trying to encourage people to show respect and encourage is the only way to stat. If I start with a heavy hand somw will back off and others will fight back. I'm not after starting a war I am after building a very good peace. If after trying to encourage people still insist on abusing then they will be banned. I have read and re read the posts you object to and I honestly believ the bulk of the abuse was directed at me from one Newcastle fan. A fan who is not a bad person, a fan who has adnitted he lost his temper, a fan who right now is on a article on this forum debating with Sunderland fans, without abuse.

I respect your view, like the vast majority of posters who have migrated here - perhaps some/many may not agree with it - but that is one of the refreshing changes from the fascist police at the beeb <grr>

I would respectfully ask you to reflect on your general view of what is, and is not, acceptable? You may well find X view/outlook acceptable but others may not and want your views/words/expressions banned? Life is a spectrum, and I enjoy reading yours, so maybe give the site a bit longer eh?? <ok>
 
Personally I don't think Mods should come from within a group of supporters. They should be as impartial as possible.

On the Newcastle board this week in one post I was called a c**k and blatantly misquoted. Now I don't mind a bit of name calling as it means nowt. I do however take offence to being misquoted. I complaned, first time ever.
I was informed by by the Newcastle mod (Bever, Todger??? Whatever his name is) That I shouldn't give it if I can't take it????
I didn't call anyone a name as far as I can recall and I defiantly didn't misquote.
If that standard of bisased moderating is maintained this place will become a free for all and rapidly loose it's appeal. To me anyway.
