Certainly some food for thought here http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...ancy-feeds-canary-fans-need-for-swift-action/
A lot of common sense and truth in that article. We are in an era of instant gratification, and football is at the front of the onslaught for said gratification. We have no idea just what is going on behind the scenes at Carrow Road, but we moan about it anyway. All we have to go on is stupid journalistic conjecture and downright lies. And the sad part is that we take the bait offered and get emotionally involved in all of this transfer circus.
I think the article is generally a load of old codswallup. We may live in an increasingly impatient world (Some may call it a consequence of progress and efficiency) but I think it is not greatly more so in football than in other things; we have fast food(some might argue we always did, as a chippy usually has some stuff already cooked) , amazon prime, the internet to feed you information, films, TV at the touch of a button, cars that start and run first time (No more fiddling with the choke on a cold morning) and Nappies are disposable (- so is virtually everything these days!) so there is a clean one instantly and not a damp house with every radiator covered! Now there maybe some small minority getting ansy already over no signings, no CEO in place etc. But they are a silly few. In the comments section however there is some sense to counter the sweeping generalisations against the few. Perhaps those of us who consider recent recruitment to have been a complete ballsup think that we certainly should be making progress with both player purchases and the new CEO. I don't expect to hear too much about it, but if we have not got key targets over the line before August this year, then I would lose further faith in our boards ability to run a football club. And if we start the season with Bassong and Martin in the starting line up then between the board and Neil I think some sort of sectioning would be in order! Lambert seemed to be able to get his transfers in early working with the same board (Now minus Bowket and McNally) so lets get back to that. Far better to get them in before pre-season kicks off. Bah!
4 out of the last 5 seasons in the mega rich Premier league and yet we have to hire football player estate agents to sell the our best players to balance the books. Woss gorn on ? Hopefully the article is just horseshit. http://readnorwich.com/2016/06/10/brady-and-jerome-put-up-for-sale-by-norwich/
The article is pretty good and in line with one of your OP's recently RBF. He possibly exaggerated one or two things but the sentiment is not far off.
Always good to see you back RBF and I agree with Ed's article. We were talking about the age difference in another thread a while back and that's an important part of all this. GM's fast food and Amazon Prime (normal delivery usually does for me) are examples of it. The young man at PC World warned me that the tablet I'm now using was slow (it takes 15 seconds to start up!). The prime example IMO is those on the transfer thread who are calling for a complete clean-out of players so we can start from scratch. That would be football suicide. Lambert is often cited as someone who did things quickly - an impatient man always in a hurry Bowkett called him. Where is he now? I get the feeling that AN wants to build a squad for the future, a dynasty he once called it. Some on here questioned our purchase of young players like McGrandles, Thompson and Maddison as doing nothing for our chance of survival in the PL - get players in who can do it now. AN has done both, looking short and long term at the same time. Yes, it was a failure to not get a quality CB in last summer, but that aside, our recruitment has been reasonable and forward looking. The proof will emerge this season and beyond, but the approach is right, as was that of Ken Brown and Dave Stringer which led to our greatest successes under Mike Walker in the 1990's by bringing on young players and building a squad that was greater than the sum of its parts. New players will be coming in, but as Ed says, not until the window opens July 1st.
We can be as patient as we like but If the board are willing to cash in on Jerome our top scoring striker in the last 2 seasons even though he managed just 3 . Brady our only highly rated player over the season and one of England's most promising U21 players Redmond them this does not look like building for the future. We would not have won the play off final without Jerome and Redmond and have nobody anywhere near as good in our squad to replace them.
You put a lot more faith in that dubious HITC article than I do, DD. Redmond refused a new contract because he wants to leave. How would you make him stay? If PL clubs come sniffing for Brady, I suspect he'll leave as well. We all knew we'd lose players after relegation - it's what we do with the money that counts after that.
Well said Rick. Maddison was the star player in a team that nearly got promotion last season to the league we are now in so has to be a regular starter for us next year. The other kids you mention also need to be in the squad next year and not loaned out to the leagues they came from. The likes of the Murphys and Morris are not kids anymore. If they can't perform well in the Championship at 22 they won't be able to shine in the Premiership at a later date. Either play them or let them go. While I'm at it we ought to do a Rudd a favour and let him move on and finally Tony Andreu. I understand that he shines in training but struggles to get up to the speed and power of the English game. Once again - play him or move him on.
I agree 1950 - if they're not good enough for regular football at CR, then let them go where they will be almost guaranteed to be playing regularly.
While I agree with your jibe about Murdoch, who is a reliable source these days in the press? I used to think the Telegraph was but that has gone more tabloid in content, The Guardian / Observer is probably tops these days would you say?
Perhaps the situation is more clearly stated here: http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spor...summer_transfer_market_are_revealed_1_4571911
Having taken the time to actually read the article, the club IS doing what it can to ensure that we are as ready as possible for the battles of the forthcoming season and expect to see quite a few changes in the squad before kick off - now 8 weeks away. I'm sure Brady, Redmond and possibly Jerome will leave and I'd love to see Bassong join that list as well. It's also going to be interesting to see which players we sign who are up for our cause to try and achieve promotion back to the PL.
Morning Rick, yes, as you say Age does have a big part to play, Ed´s getting on in years, as are some here But we haven´t therefore lost our way Age comes with its own rewards Which too often do get ignored, Experience, wisdom, even patience too A virtue some just can´t afford ´More haste less speed´ does still hold true When buying and selling to do, And even more so, finding a CEO A vital job, at a vital time, in my view.
