I was born in 1981

He retired from boxing in 1981

Given that we lived in the pre-internet age and had to rely on fuzzy TV and Newspapers, its amazing that we knew who Ali was.
But he was so big that you couldn't help but know.

The third fight with Frazier should have been the last for both of them....but far too often in boxing, money talks and following fights shouldn't have been sanctioned, especially the one against Larry Holmes.

Legend gets used too often these days, but he was and for many will always be the Greatest.

RIP.

Much as I admire Ali there were two boxers that would certainly have beaten him No 1 Joe Louis his punch was so hard , No2 Rocky Marciano surely the hardest fighter ever

Respect your views as to Louis and Marciano as both great fighters. All three, including Ali, were excellent boxers but for me Ali remains the best. Bear in mind Ali's fights against Liston, Frazier and Foreman. Unlike your good self I'm not old enough to have seen Louis or Marciano ( :) ), but as Angelo Dundee said
