And another one goes in Frankus after an astonishing drift to 4-1 ! The greatest racehorse ever seen and now what a start to his stud career. This one was not as impressive as 3 of the others but nevertheless won well. They clearly do not show as much at home as they often drift but once on the racecourse Dad comes to the fore and whoosh.
They're going to want to stop taking on Frankel's babies so much pretty quickly! 9/4 when I left to walk my dogs and came in to see it win at 4/1...what a start for Frankel and his little 'uns. Sporting Life will have a picture of Sprinter Sacre over a caption of Fraankus tomorrow no doubt!
Just got in to see the result, fantastic! I wonder if it's the same person writing the RP commentaries?!
This is almost the transcript of mine and sticks conversation post race!!! Have you tapped our phones? Couple of expletives missing mind, thanks for omitting them Blue. Thanks for all the support guys. Your insight and views always interesting and as stick says Michael is incredibly open with us. He really is a top bloke who we really enjoy having a chat and a beer with...... Stick asked for atzeni so blame him! Hahahah. My choice next time! If he gets down much further stick is going to ride him!
I wish I could claim some clairvoyance Don, unfortunately it is just 'the bleedin obvious' to all it seems but those who ride him or provide them with their instructions. I love Atzeni and would have him on my horse any day and Ryan Moore aside is the best riding in the UK in my view. What it looks like to the naked eye is that he wasn't given any instructions or had them insisted upon. I say this because he gave the horse a default ride. A default ride for me is where you hope for the best at the break, neither insisting he get to the front nor taking a pull ( Jamie Style )and ideally sit in a not too bad position, you then let the horse travel and once the pace picks up from those making it you ask your horse and hope he has it in him to get to the front. Unfortunately this is perfectly good for about 60- 70% of horses, the other 30 - 40% need riding to account for particularities with regard their strengths, vulnerabilities and racing styles. Squire needs it taking into account that his racing style (natural strengths and vulnerabilities) are that he lacks instant acceleration but has a little above average distance through which you can expect his top speed to last and is willing in front. So as we say ask very early, and let them catch you. Because he is always closing at the line it leads a race watcher to imagine he needs further but he has actually just been ridden poorly, over the 10f we may find his finishing burst does not last long enough or reach such a speed due to already having travelled two furlongs further, a strong mile sent to the front 2f out means he will have the stamina to last as he can go 10f, means he will severely test the speedier pick up types earlier than they like as they hope to use their acceleration in the final furlong, and he will show guts in a finish which not all the opposition will. Thanks for sharing as usual and fingers crossed for next time.
Does Squires pedigree give you hope of having a bash at 12f? Bold I know but without looking into the dam side in any detail, you have a Teofilio out of a Darshaan mare, and he does keep sticking on in his races. His one run at the trip was disappointing at Lingfield but he was outpaced on a tight track that day rather than failing to stay. Never apologise for talking about him by the way. I think it's bloody brilliant and look forward to him gaining a deserved success for you down the line.
I think Blue has nearly nailed it. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that he would be seen at his best over a stiff mile. I feel though that he needs to be sent on 3f out rather than 2f out, everybody wants to get going 2f out and he doesn't pick up like a lot of them in his grade do. My vision is of him hitting the front turning in over a mile at Sandown. For me he ran his best race there when narrowly failing to catch Rembrandt Van Rijn.
I agree with you Stick as I when I say 2f out I mean take it up and hit the front at that point and so he would likely need asking almost 3 f out from just off the lead, he should be in full stride as he passes the 2 pole. Do you feel he would have any trouble laying up just behind the leader in a strong run race?
Analysing the replay on RUK David Cleary (TimeForm) "Dropping down to a Mile Squire was not best suited to the slowly run nature of the race". Angus McNae (RUK Pundit) " Squire needs further, it might be worth giving him a go over a mile & half ?" I noticed in his form that you gave him a spin over 12 furlongs at Linggers A/W March 2015, beaten just over 5L by a good un in Watersmeet now rated 99 (+18lbs), was Rab of the opinion he didn't stay?
We weren't really sure what to make of that run as his AW form has always been considered inferior to his turf form. Interesting the comment that he was unsuited by the slow pace. If we cannot get a decent gallop over a mile then what chance over ten furlongs.
