Who am I?

I was born in Essex during the early 1930s, to Scottish parents
I met a Shakespearean actor at the dentist, and this led to a long stint in Stratford
I've won a Tony and a Laurence Olivier award, and I was nominated for an Oscar in the early 80s
I've married four times, I have five children, and I survived cancer

I was born into a Catholic/Jewish household in New York, during the early 1970s
Before moving into films, I appeared in print advertisements and TV commercials, and I even recorded a couple of songs in the Far East
I won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for the same role
I've been an ambassador for various charities and organisations, including Save the Children and Amnesty International

One of three siblings, I was born in the USA during the first decade of 20th century
Early jobs included lifeguard, advertising agent and professional footballer
I owed much to my friendship with Orson Welles, and I regularly worked with Alfred Hitchcock
I lost my voice after a stroke in the early 80s, and my larynx was removed less than a decade later
