Well; over 16 years, a 25% (approx) strike rate getting one in the first 3 in the classics isn't too bad I suppose <laugh>. Especially when it is impossible to get a 100% strike rate in some of them due to having more than 3 runners in the race.

Here's a quote from the Aga which is a bit overstating things. '"In this case, with this horse, it is an operation which goes back five generations'.......

Well it's not 5 it's 2 and it was an operation that appears to have been curtailed too Or maybe not as he may have a 3yo filly this year called Hazanama (by Pivotal) who is out of a Barathea sister to Harzand's dam and she is called Hazarista. Both must have a good chance of being sent to Sea the Stars I'd have thought now.

Before Holiday sold Hazy Idea she produced the Flying Childers Stakes winner Hittite Glory. So some speed as well as class.

2nd year that the owner has sold the dam a year or so before her produce is a Derby winner.

Here's a more complete picture on the Aga Khan and his position opposite Harzand’s family. Though the Aga Khan sold the dam of Harzand, called Hazariya, he still has plenty of relatives in the stud.

Just to remind ourselves Harzand is by Sea the Stars out of Hazariya who is by Xaar out of Hazaradjat by Darshaan. Within the first 4 removes he is not in-bred but is inbred to Mr Prospector (4 x 5) and Sir Ivor (4 x 5).

The Aga Khan has 4 daughters of Hazariya in his stud, so 4 half-sisters to his Derby winner. The oldest Hazarafa is only 9 years old and she is by Daylami. Using this sire reinforces the Never Bend line of Darshaan (in Harariya’s pedigree) and also makes sure that like Harzand the mare is inbred (4 x 5) to Mr Prospector. Hazarafa will visit Camelot in 2016. This injects a further line of Northern Dance into the pedigree as Hazariya is rare in having only one line through The Minstrel. It also means the foal will share with Harzand the feature of being 4 x 5 inbred to Mr Prospector.

Next up is Haziyna who is a year younger and by Halling. Remarkably she shows no in-breeding in her first 5 generations. In 2016 she was sent to Mastercraftman who is inbred to Northern Dancer (4 x 4) which means the foal will have 4 lines of Northern Dancer but the nearest in the 5th generation. What Mastercraftsman does do is introduce another line of Sharpen Up so the foal will be 4 x 4 inbred to him.

Harasiya is only 6 years old and is by Pivotal. Again she has no inbreeding in her first 5 generations and the nearest she has is 4 x 6 inbreeding to Northern Dancer. In 2016 she was sent to Sea the Stars so there will be ¾ of Harzand’s pedigree seen with the foal.

The last sister is the 5yo Hazaraba who is by Oasis Dream and is inbred 4 x 4 to Sir Ivor as well as having extra lines of Never Bend This year Hazaraba was sent to Lope de Vega who introduces one line of Northern Dancer but perhaps more important is inbred 3 x 3 Machiavellian so reinforcing the Mr Prospector line in the pedigree.

Hazariya’s dam was Hazaradjat and there is a 15yo mare in the stud called Hazarista by Barathea. Her only in-breeding in her first 5 generations is to Holiday’s Netherton Maid. She visited War Command in 2016.

Finally there is a 9yo granddaughter of Hazaradjat in the stud called Hanakiyya (by Danehill Dance out of a Be My Guest mare) so inbred to Northern Dancer through these sires. She visited Sea the Stars' son Sea the Moon this year so reinforces the Northern Dancer lines while introducing a line of Monsun.

I’d have thought a couple of these will be visiting Sea the Stars next year. As one never knows what is the key matching or mating Golden Horn may also get a visit. What is certain is that the Hazy Idea family is alive and well in the Aga’s stud and with 4 young mares should be for sometime.

EDIT day later: Weld has a half-brother to Harzand called Haripour and he is by Shamadal.
