Why though? It is supply vs demand. There is great access to a number of different footballing leagues and indeed sports now in global media. The cut and thrust of the PL with most games outcomes uncertain has a great appeal. That is why it generally usurps it's european counterparts leagues. And again why it will remain more profitable as long as it's strongest globally recognisable teams stay than any champions league or other comp. When the CL starts serving up entertaining and more occationally unpredictable football then we may see some progress in revenue. Until we do, why would BT et all fork out as much for the rights for the CL? ANd if they, SKY and the rest of the world broad casters won't pay as much then where is the greater prize money to come from?
To also put it in context, whilst the winner may not win as much from the CL as 20th in the PL, I'm fairly sure that all of the clubs ultimately contesting the later stages, will still be bringing in inxs of that last place finisher from their own domestic rights and winnings.
With the new rights deal the playing field may begin to level in the PL as that added income starts to further talent strip the lesser financed leagues in Europe. I genuinely fear for all the other leagues as the increased spending power here, in china and the US could strip them of most of the best. It could leave those leagues even worse exposed to their top twos or threes who can constantly qualify for the CL and as a result maintain domestic dominance as the talent differeential increases. La liga is bad enough with only 2-3 possible winners, imagine if the rest are unable to keep their best players as the PL can destroy their wage offerings. The gap grows and the league becomes even less appealing. PL domination grows!

Murdocks evil master plan in action!

Bah!

......... and we've just gone and got ourselves relegated <grr>

Another article by Michael Bailey from the EDP which, despite being rammed full of stats and quotes from Deloitte and all, carries a poignant message in the final paragraphs:-

According to Deloitte, the 2014-15 season saw Championship clubs’ wage bill (£541m) finally drop below revenue (£548m) – but it doesn’t take a genius to realise that situation cannot continue indefinitely.
This remains an unsustainable level of spending without the support of owner funding,” added Deloitte’s report.
The Championship still has a long way to go before it can be considered a financially healthy place – and any prolonged spell in the second tier would be a difficult environment for the Canaries to inhabit.

I like the look of the England starting side. just depends on the formation and positioning really.

Hart, Walker, Rose, Smalling, Cahill, Dier, Milner, Alli, Rooney, Kane, Vardy

Surely:

Hart
Walker, Smalling,Cahill, Rose
Dier
Milner, Alli
Rooney
Vardy staggered just behind Kane?

Can anyone tell me what the point of Milner is? All he does is slow down moves and lose the ball. He used to have a bit of creativity in wide positions, but centrally he's a waste of space.

Can anyone tell me what the f*cking point of starting Vardy is, when we never played him a long ball to run in behind all game!? Instead he was asked to track back! Then sub him because for some reason, he's not making the same impact as for Leicester! The Champions! So sub him, and leave Rooney on, who has also offered nothing! And push him up front, where he can't even get a game for a very crap Man United.

We wont get out of the group stage with Roy in charge.

Rooney can't play up front for United, because of how good Rashford has been.
Rashford can't get a run out tonight when we need a goal, because Roy wants to play Rooney.

<applause>

Wilshire is a gamble with his fitness issues, but as last nights cameo illustraited, probably one worth taking. I'm not sure Drinkwater could offer as much.
I can see a tournament blighted by Woy's inability to accept that Wooney is a spent force. Playing him out of position or in position, what ever that is these days is all the same. He had a crap season and will drag this young team with a small amount of promise down. With his international goals he is probably worth a place on the bench, but does he really turn up to tournaments?
None of the players will have much of a chance though if Hodgson is still tinkering and trying to figure out how to accomodate Rooney? 3 friendlies, no continuity in selection or set up? Woy may not have a clue. I understand the need to give the lads game time but surely it's game time in the right system with the right team mates who you need to bond together, given the lack of time a national coach has to work with his team.

Bah!
