As we bridge he time between seasons and look forward now to The Championship, how do we look at the prospect of cup runs?
It is the norm now to concentrate primarily on promotion (quite rightly) but does that mean being knocked out of cups at early stages in order to boost that prime ambition. Playing second strings amounts to the same scenario really, but is there any alternative and do we applaud that philosophy? It is a long time since we had any serious cup run, possibly under Hughton in the League Cup?
Thoughts anyone?
 
Scraptoft bor, it is my belief that you enter a competition to win it, whatever the rating for that competition is. Winning the Norfolk Senior Cup to me is just as important as the FA Cup. But then that is my opinion.

Looking forward to next season when City make an appearance at the Pirelli Stadium, also looking forward to a trip to see us against the Rams. DV that is.

Fair enough, but would you prioritise the cup over the league? Like you, the prospect of some new grounds is appealing in some ways and hopefully with the prospect of better success than last term.
 
Scraptoft bor, a league is also a competition, should get equal attention. A good cup run instills confidence in the team whereas a poor run means less revenue. A team should set out to win all matches, not chose to win certain games. The FA Cup is compulsory to member clubs so why not give it your best shot. What team wants to lose to say Luton at home in the FA Cup ?

Mr Hootun's NCFC legacy
 
Just catching up on old threads and this one suddenly jogged my memory. When I was a kid I remember that every year we used to play Lowestoft for the Fishermans Widows & Orphans Cup which was, allegedly, the biggest ( in size ) Cup in the Country. Anybody else remember that or, better still, know what happened to the Cup?
