I'm optimistic that Sadio will stay, especially if Ron signs an extension. there is a togetherness in the squad now that wasn't there in the last two summers, this summer could be a watershed one for the club.

Well if we don't accept, he will have to stay.

You are missing my point. I am saying the position and the money we get makes it a little easier. But if a real big comes in with a big offer he is still more likely to go then stay.

I'm saying that even if a big offer comes in, my opinion is it's short sighted to sell now as he is a key player for us. Sadio may want to go this summer as was the case with Morgan but the club will benefit if he stays another year.

Of course we would. But sometimes that is taken out of our hands. All I hope is when he does leave. Mane has learnt from what he has done in the past and acts rightly.

I think you lot are debating over the question of leverage, and at what stage Gareth Rogers looks up from his Excel spreadsheet and says, hey, that's a very interesting amount of money.

The philosophy of the club has been to incrementally improve, season upon season, so that it can be sustainable. Let's face it, they can't take the huge steps anymore. They've been telling us this for a couple of seasons now, and one of the things they felt they needed to do was to stop the end of season exodus. It wasn't so much that when the key players left they couldn't replace them adequately. It was that they felt they must send out a message that this club are as ambitious as any other club, maybe more so, and that means that we are not a shop full of goodies that can be raided. So whilst Saints may let one or two players go per season, they will be players who will leave when Saints are positioned for them to do so.

It's an enormous turnaround and it is still far from being done, but it is happening. Morgan didn't leave until we were ready. He loathed it and couldn't even smile when he scored his first goal against WHU, but by the second he was grinning again. And a few games in he was the same old Morgan. Over the season Saints really researched a decent replacement and got two in Clasie and Romeu. Now I wouldn't want the situation back as it was. The same has happened with Victor. He now has one year left; appears not to want to extend his contract, so will leave for biggish money. Basically though, if a player has more than one year left on his contract there is little or no chance of him leaving. And all the while, Saints may be negotiating an improved extension. Under that scenario, players are not flying out the exit door until Saints say OK.

If Mane were to leave, for £20/£25m, I would be deeply disappointed.
Isn't that the type of fee we got for Lallana, two years ago?
Two years on, extra money from TV sponsorship, the fact that he's a goal scorer, two years on his contract and figures of £50/£60m being bandied around for (an overpriced) Lukaku, our lowest price should be circa £35m+.

If I was a rival club I'd put in a cheeky bid for Mane, but expect to pay between 30-35 million.

In all honesty, if it is true, I think Shane Long will snap that one up super quickly. There has been no other club in his career where he has been quite so well utilised and where he has improved so much. I've always liked him as a player, but I've also realised his limitations. This season especially he has improved massively. So much so that those old weaknesses are much reduced. I'm sure he likes the fact that he can play football quite regularly at a top club now. If he goes anywhere else that may not be the case.

That's not such a bad idea, tbh. Add a couple of chocci biccies and I might do the same.

Decided to go another route. Have a fairly big screen in the bedroom and forgot I'd tied in my 2nd best PC to it the other day. So I've just plugged in my wireless keyboard and mouse from my best PC and am sat back all comfy. With chocci biccies and tea. This is great. Why didn't I do this before.? I'm going to get this setup it's own wireless k/b and squeaker.

I was enlightening him as to his SaintsWeb popularity and he had no idea. <laugh>
