The only real surprise was that they didn't start fighting amongst themselves, they've got previous for that.

Still, a decent away day in London lost today for Ipswich and Norwich supporters.

Mind you, I've seen our lot fighting amongst themselves both home and away, so it probably ill behoves me to cast the first stone...

This from the BBC report of the game!

Police statement on reports of crowd problems
Posted at18:34
There have been reports of a small number of supporters in the Millwall section getting past police and stewards and confronting a number of Barnsley fans inside Wembley.

The Metropolitan Police said: "At approximately 16:35 on Sunday 29 May during the League One play-off final between Millwall and Barnsley at Wembley an altercation between a small number of fans occurred.

"No arrests have been made at this stage and enquiries continue.

"The Metropolitan Police Service will conduct a review and will liaise with the Football Association and the two clubs involved to identify those responsible and where necessary take the appropriate action."

This is something that we do not need to see returning to the game. If need be, the club, Millwall in this case should be immediately docked points for next season and if it is repeated possible relegation. That should nip it in the bud.

Problem with that is, you are punishing the club for the action af a few thugs that are not Millwall supporters they're just mindless idiots looking to cause trouble!

That is exactly the point because ultimately the club has to take some responsibility, otherwise it all goes South again like the 70's. If Millwall as a club made a real drive to cut this out it would help but they do little or nothing and that is not good enough.

So what exactly would you suggest that Millwall FC should do then?

Scraptoft bor, I am not in favour of deducting points from clubs for the misbehaviour of supporters. The FA have it in their power to close grounds and that would be more effective, forcing clubs to play behind closed doors would serve to remind fans that the club suffers financially if they persist in offensive behaviour. Depending on the seriously of the misbehaviour would depend on the sentence the club incurs.

But Milwall fans do some of their best rioting outside the grounds.

I say in any game like this if you have won the result is forfeited, if you lose or draw your next game goes down as a loss.

The police and the CPS have more than enough powers to deal with any infringement of the Criminal Law in a public place, I find it hard to believe that a football club should be sanctioned for the actions of individuals outside of their control.

I have to agree with you welly, any sanctions against the club will only work if the trouble-makers are true fans of the club. Trust me, they're not, they only use the club as a place to seek out their fighting!
