I have witnessed, many times, the after match "camaraderie" of small rugby clubs.
The ethos seems to be for both teams to have an after match drink, (and at some clubs food), with players making their way home from there.
This would be the first place to start, to get the message home, especially as many of the clubs have teams of all age groups, with the younger ones currently watching the seniors knocking back the beer, after match.
I am not suggesting that all rugby players do drive, whilst under the influence of alcohol, but the opportunity and temptation is there, when the bar is just a few steps from the dressing room.

Yes, there is definately a issue with Rugby teams and machismo, the lad that died may well have been peer pressured into driving home. That is in no way an excuse for his actions but it could've been what made him do it.
Don't think the issue is with rugby clubs having a drinking culture at all. Me and my mates always get pissed at the football and egg each other on to do stupid things when we are pissed. But no one drives because it's plain stupid. People that are willing to drink drive, will do so, regardless of whether they're drinking after the rugby or just at the pub with friends.
I've been in pubs where a rugby team were drinking and they really are the most obnoxious bunch of louts annoying the hell out of the rest of the pub. They just try and outdo each other in being macho and generally acting boorish.
Thankful that the other couple he crashed into did not suffer any serious injuries or worse.
I'm not going to sit and judge, we all make mistakes and he paid the ultimate price. A lot of people would have donated that would not have known this young man and this one action does not make him any more or less of a person, but as stranger I find it difficult/uncomfortable to celebrate or honour his life in the way that this charity was originally set-up to do. Perhaps this feeling will subside, but that's my initial reaction after hearing the results of the inquest.
I hope his friends and family remember him and treasure his memory

Yeah if I was a celeb who had signed up to do the macfest. Then found out about this, I would have second thoughts.
Really feel for the parents...their loss is so massive, yet made worse by not being an accident. It could all have been avoided. That's why I suggest it is turned into something positive, so he didn't die in vain. Some youth initiative perhaps at the rugby club.
So are all those footballs and musicians still up for this? It seems they got involved when everyone thought it was a tragic accident.
Concert can not go ahead now and the celebrities would be seen as endorsing drink driving. All monies raised to date should be donated to a drink drive educational cause. Sad end to an awful tragedy.
Drink driving is very wrong, but a young lad lost his life here. Anyone can make a mistake.....luckily in this instance, no one else was killed. Be different if he did this all the time, but may have been one moment of stupidity.
One moment of stupidity is enough. Drunk drivers are scum whether they live or die.

Shortly after the accident the police and his family would have been aware that he was drunk so how did the whole charity thing with people feeling sorry for him get so far? It's tragic that someone has lost their life but thankfully it wasn't the innocent parties in the other car. Driving under the influence of drink or drugs (even cannabis) is just stupid and with all the publicity these days there isn't any excuse. Feel really sorry for his parents.
Lovely to see people calling a 20 year old, who admittedly made a disgusting error in judgement, "scum". What he did was terrible, but have a little respect for someone who has just died or at the very least his family who are grieving.
Lovely to think he could have killed the people he smashed into. I don't have respect for drunk drivers at all. They choose to drive a car while over the limit. They decide not to care about other peoples lives. Sorry but drink drives are scum whether they live or die.
I do however feel sorry for his parents and the people he crashed into.

What ever man. It would have gone unnoticed but his gf made the whole thing embarrassing. This thread is a disgrace.
The family and police would have surely known soon after the crash if he'd been drunk etc, but they made celebs/singers put on an event to celebrate his life (which is fine as a family) but I'm sure a lot of big names feel stupid for agreeing to it without knowing the full details. Considering it was he who was drunk I'd be sad still for the loss of his life, but would have felt sick to be associated with something like that when it's one of the worst/stupid things people can ever do imo.
