I notice Shay Given has stated that he is prepared to go to a Championship club to get regular games.I thought he left us
to win things !If he,d stayed he could have done both last season....................

Or is it that he can now play for a Championship club ,but still retain his City salary

Was a great keeper when he left us.

idnt blame him for jumping ship, he's a top class (if not world class) keeper who had been loyal for years for us, he was getting messed around and none of our players really knew what was going on! still love the man, was terrific and some of the saves he made will stick with me for good, good luck to him

The guy just want's to play football and whoever get him will be getting a top goalkeeper.

  5. I'd take him back though, it'd be great for Harper and Given to fight for the place.

As much as i loved Shay, his time with us is over and we have moved on. Harps has been consistent for us and we have a young developing keeper in Krul, the Given era at NUFC has finished

Shay should be playing regularly, sometimes wonder if teams like Man City deliberately deny quality players options so as not to strenghen their opponents.

He could easily go to Spain or Italy, both better quality than the CCC and he'd get a nicer paycheck. Plus City would have to allow it because they'd get more money and he still wouldnt be going to a PL rival. A CCC team could eventually be their PL rivals, especially with Given in goal

He was very loyal to us for many years. He'd already put up with a lot of **** and I think it was the final straw for him. Every man has his aspirations so I think I agree with you that he didn't jump ship.

When he left I was gutted it was to Man City of all places, he should have gone to Arsenal. I bet the Gunners would love to have him, if they'd had him in goal for last couple of seasons both Arsenal and Given would probably have silverware now.

I don't blame him for leaving, a player of his quality deserved silverware and we never looked like providing him with that.

He could potentially go to a club like Manchester United. I'd say he has at least another 4 years in him and with Van Der Sar retiring he would be a good (proven) replacement. I couldn't see Manchester City letting him go to their rivals though!

My thoughts exactly that Liverpool game was the the killing blow i think for him, you could see how dejected he looked after the game. Still when he did play for us he was amazing but as other people have pointed out, the Given era is over and we have moved on since then. Wish him luck wherever he may go though...

Can't blame him for leaving and I wished him well when he did.

For some reason now though, I'm a bit relieved how it all worked out. I would of hated him to of gone somewhere else, won loads and rememberd that time to be his best of his carrear. At least this way he will always remember us as his club and where he spent his best years.

Like when you split up from your girlfriend who you are still friends with. You want them to go off and be happy but deep down you hope they look back at you and think you're the best she ever had and she wishes she never left you.
