Starting to not believe anything on SSN.

Time was, many years ago now, that newspapers and newsmedia never really speculated, but only printed news that, to the best of their knowledge, they could rely on as substantial. Then Rupert Murdoch arrived from Australia and his first newspapers in the UK were so thin with actual news that he started the trend of rumours where less than reliable information was used to base stories on. He did this only in sports and celebrity news, as the serious stuff had to be real. It was the cultural trigger to the news media we have today.

I think there used to be a cosy relationship between owners (who tended to be self-made millionaires with a love of the game) and the man from the local paper. Morsels of news would be shared over a pint and passed onto the main press. Now everyone can write up rumours...game is buried under it.

Do we think it is better now.? Better for who.?

Don't think it's better now. Just pointing out what it was like.

It's Ok, I wasn't pointedly asking you. Just asking anyone who might read it. FWIW, I don't think it's better these days either. Any news gathehring media should never threaten its reputation for the pursuit of truth, in whatever direction it goes. It breeds cynicism by not doing so, and that's poisonous.
