United players deciding that getting rid of LVG is more important than CL football next season <laugh>

Truth is it's far better for them to have the inconvenience of the EL, especially with the extra qualifying round that 6th would bring.

Well, looks like Van Driver is in for the tin-tack unless Utd can turn this around. And I so wanted him to stay!...:(

I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed Rooney's attempt at impersonating Xabi Alonso. Hilariously entertaining stuff <applause>

Utd used to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat - now it's the opposite. A lack of character, drive, composure, confidence and above all, ability in key areas.

Manchester United are set to miss out on Champions League football for two out of the last three seasons. They've spent approximately £315m since Ferguson's left and they've been playing dour football. Utterly embarrassing.

    Great game for the neutral.

    Dreadful for some of us

Very true indeed. But since Arsenal last won the title, we've won it 5 times. I'd sooner have the emotional highs and lows than perpetual groundhog day.

I've said this to you before and I'll say it again. When your own team have failed miserably, shifting the focus onto another side is futile. I am perfectly aware of Arsenal's perennial underachievement and it's none less than I expect nowadays. But it's irrelevant to the game today and to United's lack of progress in general. You lot have no excuse, having changed managers on several occasions and looking like doing it again, whilst spending a fortune.

Enjoy the pint of bitterness <ok>

    There's no bitterness.

My formative years were spent going to every home game when you could pay at the turnstile to get into the Stretford End and seeing Utd flatter to deceive. The first season I went regularly we won the first 10 games of the season and then fell away as Liverpool triumphed again. Not being at the top of the league is not alien to me - and I'm conditioned to suffering disappointment, knowing that success will be all the sweeter for it when it happens again. Just as it was 30 years ago, Utd are the best supported club with the biggest resources and there is every reason to think that success will return sooner rather than later. If I were an Arsenal fan, however, I'd wonder whether the club was content to be the 3rd or 4th best team rather than risk committing to being the best and failing, becoming the 5th or 6th best as a result. The lack of ambition over the past few years would suggest this. Look at the attitude to signing Suarez, for example. Believing that Wenger can make a silk purse from a sow's ear every season by signing B list players and ignoring obvious weaknesses in the team has proved naive - unless the extent of your ambition was to finish 3rd or 4th. Spending £315M and finishing down the table doesn't look clever, but it does show that the club retains some ambition even if there is an air of desperation for immediate success.

When the school reports are written at the end of this week, Arsenal will be commended for doing as well as can be expected, whereas Utd will be chastised for underperforming, but far better results will be expected - and predicted - for next term
