There was a royal wedding, a favourite Swans player left and re-joined in the same season, Tory government battling hard times, Preston were relegated from the second tier, famous singer Bob Marley dies and Swansea City finished 3rd. This was the scene in 1981 when the Swans were last promoted to the top flight in the football league. And now 2011... There was a royal wedding, a favourite swans player left and re-joined in the same season, Tory government battling hard times, Preston were relegated from the second tier, famous singer Amy Winehouse dies and Swansea City finished 3rd. Also that year our goal keeper left and The Swans finished 6th in the old 1st division now known as the premiership !!!

The 1981–82 season was Cardiff City F.C.'s 55th season in the Football League. They competed in the 22-team Division Two, then the second tier of English football, finishing twentieth. The season saw a two-tier management system at the club with former Wales international Graham Williams as team manager with Richie Morgan, who had been in charge of the team for the last three years, acting as general manager. However the system failed to produce results and, after just eleven league games, the pair were sacked and replaced by Len Ashurst.
And thirty years ago I sat in the new East Stand at the Vetch, front row, dead in front of goal and watched us demolish Leeds 5-1. This time I'm sitting in the East Stand at whatever-they're-calling-it-now stadium, half-way-line, and hope to see something close to a repeat of result if not score - at least not against us. One thing is for certain, unlike the old Leeds, Man City are not going to be relegated this season.
We actually finished only 6th that season because we had terrible run of form in the final month or so of the season.
Good one Dilli. ...and if it's possible for this season to beat last it'll be us finishing mid-table and Cardiff hitting the foot of the Championship. WOW.
And now the riots... In 1981, the United Kingdom suffered serious riots across many major cities in England. The four main riots that occurred were the Brixton riot in London, the Handsworth riot in Birmingham, the Chapeltown riot in Leeds and the Toxteth riots in Liverpool.
