Southampton are thought to be preparing an offer to make for the winger in the summer, as they plot out their transfer plans ahead of next season. Wolfsburg are also interested in Mertens.
Mertens has scored 11 goals and managed six assists for Napoli this season and is expected to go to the European Championships with Belgium this summer. Southampton may want to get a deal done before that to make sure his price does not inflate.
Napoli are thought to be in discussions with his agent as they look to go about extending his current contract with the Serie A side. However, these talks have been going on for a while and his future looks very clouded at present.
